COMMUNITY LIFE

A MESSAGE FROM Catholic Charities Office of Immigrant Services

We have concluded the seventh and last of our CLINIC Legal Screening events over the span of six weeks. We can proudly say that with your help, we have reached 650 individuals throughout our East TN communities. To reach so many across the area in such a short period of time would have been impossible without your selfless donation of time and being so giving of your talents to assist those who need it most. So many questions were answered, so many families left with a plan, so many individuals found hope—and it is all thanks to you.

PREGNANCY HELP CENTER

On behalf of Catholic Charities we would like to extend our sincere gratitude for your generous gift of $380 in cash on 4/27 to the Pregnancy Help Center Baby Bottles Fundraiser. Because of you, more new mothers are learning how to care for their babies, more moms and dads are gaining the skills needed to raise healthy & happy children. Your gift gives parents the opportunity to enroll in “Earn While You Learn” program, where they can participate in educational classes and earn credit to purchase needed items in our baby store. Your contribution is providing 360 degrees of hope and for that, we are truly thankful. What a blessing your gift is!

COMMUNITY LIFE

ARE YOU BEING CALLED TO SERVE THROUGH FOSTER CARE?

There are over 700 children in state's custody in Knox County alone. There is a great need for homes to foster children of all ages in all the counties of our diocese. Current DCS foster parent, Cassie, shares her journey: "Being a foster parent is a direct response to God's command to "look after orphans and widows in their distress." (James 1:27) As a disciple of Christ we are mandated to follow His command to do this. God called our family into this ministry 3 years ago. I am now able to share the Gospel in the tenderest ways in which I wasn't able to do before. I not only minister to the needs of children but to their families and am able to share my testimony to mothers who are struggling. God has given me the opportunity to hold tiny babies, sing to them and pray over them. We have been able to care for older children who have never been consistently taken to church where they learn about God as our Healer. Through us, they see God as their Provider. Our act of obedience will change the lives of children, families and possibly generations. I have grown closer to the Lord during this time as I walk with Him daily in this journey. I encourage you, if you are being called, to step out. Jesus will meet you just as He did Peter when He called him out to the water. If our eyes remain focused on Him we will find Him to be all we need. To God be the glory in all that I do" Consider being a foster parent for a child in need. Call 1-877-DCS-KIDS (327-5437) for more information. Or go to our website: http://www.tn.gov/dcs/article/become-a-foster-Parent

Don't know what to do with all those hotel toiletries you collected over summer vacation? If you would like to help The Home Place clients "pay it forward," please drop off items at Catholic Charities, 859 McCallie Ave., Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. For more information: [email protected], or call 423-698-9079.
