THANKSGIVING DAY MASS

November 22, 2018 9 A.M.

You are invited to bring bread & wine to be blessed for your Thanksgiving table.

A NOTE FROM FR. GREG As we gather around our Thanksgiving tables this year, let us remember to give thanks not only for the blessings we can see but also for the blessings we cannot see, including all of the following: • Firefighters, police officers, and paramedics who are ready to help us even on a holiday; • Teachers who spend so much of their own time and money to educate our children; • Ancestors who struggled, maybe in a strange new land, to make a better life for their descendants, that is, us; • Priests who will come to comfort the dying and their families in the middle of the night; • Faraway friends who still think of us with a smile; • Members of the U.S. military, especially those serving our country overseas; • Missionaries preaching the gospel in places where they face constant hostility and danger; • Farm workers who labored for low pay under the hot sun in order to harvest the fruits and vegetables on our Thanksgiving tables; The gift of our Catholic faith and the freedom to practice it. Have a happy and grateful Thanksgiving.

chase turkeys, chickens and other perishable items needed for the

Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Sunday, December 9th

Mark your calendar on Sunday, December 9th! You are warmly invited to a special Mass to honor Our Blessed Mother as Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas. This is the 31st year that we will celebrate this feast day here at St. Joseph of Cupertino Church.

At 4:30 p.m., the rosary will be recited in some of the many languages representative of our diverse cultural community. At 5:00 p.m., the Mass will be concelebrated by Bishop Oscar Cantu and several priests, and will include a narration and dramatic presentation of the story of Guadalupe and a traditional dance, by the school children. Following the Mass, a fun-filled fiesta will take place in the parish hall. Would you like to become involved in the planning and preparation? We need many people to help with set up, decoration, roses, food, serving, etc. If you'd like more information or would like to help, please contact Mariqueta Churchill at (408) 245-3504.

What better way to prepare for Christmas than to come to this beautiful celebration!

May Our Lady comfort and enlighten your heart. May she be present to you and guide all the members of your family.

May you grow closer to Our Lord Jesus Christ, through His most Blessed Mother.

New Song Books for Pews are Coming

Are you interested in helping with the “changing of the books”? We

will need many hands to gather up all the old song books from the pews, take off the plastic covers and put them onto the new books, and distribute them in the pews. We will also repair and re-distribute the Mass cards into the pews. The new books will begin with Advent, so we want to get them ready before-hand. Come to the church on Friday, November 30th from 10:00 a.m. till noon. For information, please call Mary Ellen Hennig at (408) 255-6382 [email protected] . Thanks so much!

Mass Intentions for the Week (†) = Deceased (L) = Living

Stewardship at St. Joseph of Cuper no

The readings today speak of the end of the world and the coming of t h e

kingdom. The bishops’ pastoral on steward-ship says clearly “the ‘life to come’ is in con-formity with this present life through the hu-man goods, the worthy human purposes, which people foster now.” May our good stewardship help us to be numbered among the chosen on the last day!

Stewardship Prayer Rev. Gregory Kimm, 2009

God rich in kindness and generous in love, You call us to be your people, a church, a community of faith.

You have entrusted St. Joseph of Cuper no Parish to our care. Help us to be good stewards, always worthy of your trust.

As you are a en ve to the needs of each of us, Enable us to be a en ve to the needs of our parish, using the gi s you have given us not just for our own good, but for the good of all. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our Brother, and in the Spirit, who makes us one. Amen!
