2017 Annual Pastoral Appeal

Clergy Support & Education Weekend What is the Annual Pastoral Appeal?

A tool to help our parish raise the

money needed to pay our assessment

to the Diocese of St. Petersburg.

Every parish is assessed their “fair share” of the

income needed to subsidize the diocesan budget. Why do the parishes have to pay their share?

We are all parishioners of the Diocese of

St. Petersburg. The support you give to the

church is for both the local church, in our case

St. John Vianney, as well as the diocesan church.

The diocese does not have its own church

building with Masses and offertory. All of the

church buildings located within the diocesan

area belong to the diocese. How can you help?

Make a pledge or one-time donation.

Every dollar gets us closer to our goal. What is our goal?

Our goal, or more accurately, our assessment

is $302,494. This is a little higher than last year

and is based on our income as compared to the

income of all of the other parishes. That is why

they refer to it as our “fair share.” A parish half

the size of ours with half the income will

probably have to pay half what we pay. Last year

our assessment went down a little; this year it

went up. How does this fit into the big picture?

We are called to be Stewards, to serve the Lord

by sharing the blessings we have received from

Him. It is only through His blessings and gifts

that we have what we have; our talents, our

ability to earn a living, our possessions. We are

called to share of each of these—talents and

treasures, as well as our time. Tune in next week to find out how the funds

are used. Just what do they do with all this money?

Walk in the Light

Christ Renews His Parish You are the light of the world.

A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do

they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;

it is set on a lamp stand, where it gives light to all in

the house. Just so, your light must shine before others,

that they may see your good deeds and glorify your

heavenly Father.

—Matthew 5:14-16

During the Christmas season, our churches, our

communities and our homes are ablaze with light.

Where does the bright splendor of all that light go

after Christmas is over? Where does all the joy

that rings out in the songs we sing in our church,

our community and our home go after Christmas?

Where does the hope, faith, goodness and cheer

go in our greetings to strangers in our markets

and stores? The Women’s Team of Christ Renews His Parish

asks you to join with them in 2017 to take that

Christmas light, joy, hope, faith, goodness and

cheer and to let it ...shine before others, that

they may see your good deeds and glorify your

heavenly Father.

Swimming Upstream: Going Against the

Current Culture In this empowering talk, Steve Ray shares what

it means to be a Christian in today’s world.

By examining the lives and
