Happy New Year and let’s Praise God!!! On Christmas Eve we reached our goal of 9,000 Rosaries! Thank you to all our Prayer Warriors. You have all done an awesome job! Keep praying. Faith Formation will resume on Wednesday, January 8th. Baptism Class will be on Thursday, January 9th at 7:00 p.m. As we begin the year 2020, let us commend ourselves entirely to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She is the most pure and loving creature God ever made and Jesus gave her to us as our Mom at the foot of the Cross. While He hung in agony, Jesus placed her into the care of St. John the Evangelist and he into her care. In doing so, Jesus entrusted the entire Church to Mary. Give all your concerns to our Blessed Mother. She has a very personal interest in our lives because she loves each of us with a perfect mother’s love. God has willed that we become His sons and daughters. Through baptism, we became the children of God. St. Paul says the Holy Spirit has been poured into our hearts enabling us to cry out to God, “Daddy!” Every family needs both a father and mother, even the family of God. So, moved by the superabundance of His divine love, Jesus gave us His own Mom. Mary is attentive to our deepest needs as she was to her Son’s. She always intercedes with Jesus for us. Loving her does not take anything away from the love we owe to God. Actually, it’s just the opposite. By loving, honoring and commending ourselves to her, we imitate Jesus Christ, the Eternal Word of God, Second Person of the Holy Trinity, Who loves, honors and entrusted Himself to her. We are called to be His disciple, meaning we should emulate Him in every way, even how He relates to His Mother. How do we get to know Mary and have a relationship with her? By spending time with her and talking to her. Converse with her as you would your own mother. Tell her how your day went, your joys, sorrows, secret desires and fears. You can reveal things to her that you may not even be able to tell your own earthly mom. Mary is not an imaginary person; she is a real flesh and blood human being who has the full Resurrection promised by her Son. She dwells in the unapproachable glory of God, yet is completely present to us, because she is our Momma. As you deepen your love for her, she will reveal herself to you in her own way. She will, also, instruct you in what is most pleasing to God and form you to be like Jesus. Mary definitely wants us to have an intense prayer life. We already know from numerous apparitions of Our Lady that the Rosary is her preferred form of prayer outside of the Mass and Eucharistic adoration. Through the Rosary, we are united to her Immaculate Heart, and through her brought into the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Within the Sacred Heart are all the mysteries of our salvation and the fullness of the Kingdom of God. My brothers and sisters, let 2020 be a year of deep devotion to Mary. Follow the actions of our parish patron, St. John the Evangelist, who welcomed her into his heart. She was his Momma and she’s our Momma too. Love her and love Jesus through her. May God be praised and may you be blessed! Mission Statement To walk by Faith, to be known by Love and to be a Beacon of Light in our community. We are asking that you pray 3 Hail Marys after each Mass for people to come back to their Catholic Faith. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Eucharist Schedule Saturday:5:00 pm - St. John, Grafton Sunday: 7:30 am - Sacred Heart, Oakwood 9:30 am - St. John, Grafton Reconciliation Saturday: 4:00 - 4:45 pm - St. John Sunday: 7:10 am - Sacred Heart, Oakwood 9:00 - 9:15 am - St. John ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Parish Office: 352-1648 Fr. Divorced, Separated, Widowed! Consider Beginning Experience (BE) – a Peer Group offering hope and support by listening, accompanying and healing. BE has a pre-weekend weekly support program called “Coping with Life Alone”. We would like to get this program established in Grand Forks. We have scheduled an information meeting on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 7:00 PM in the basement of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 524 5th Ave. N. At this meeting we hope to learn if there is sufficient interest to establish this program in Grand Forks. We would, also, invite recent graduates of the BE weekend who may be interested in assisting the program by facilitating or doing other volunteer work. Beginning Experience, though its origin, is from the Catholic Church, has, from the start, been open to persons of any faith. For more information on BE see the Web sites: “beginningexperience.org” or www.beginningexperience-easternnd.org. You can text me, Monsignor Daniel Pilon at 701-361-2051 or email [email protected].

Stewardship Moment - “Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” Matthew 2:11 The image of the Magi kneeling before the infant Jesus and opening their treasure chests for Him is an image that we should all try to follow each day. In gratitude for all that we have been given, we are called to generously share all of our gifts, not just the ones we pick and choose. God wants us to be generous with everything, but especially that one thing that means the most to you.

Weekly Prayer of the Faithful Petitions - That we are generous with all of our gifts, especially the one thing that means the most to us.

St. John’s Quilters will start quilting on Thursday, January 9th after the 9:00 a.m. Mass. We need people to:

Cut - Iron - Design - Sew - Tie - Etc. Everyone Welcome!

They opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Matt. 2:11b
