Deacon’s Corner

“in the same way, anyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.” Wow ! this is a real tough one, and Jesus words are almost shocking to us. He starts out by insisting that we must hate our father, moth-er, wife, children, brothers and sisters and even ourselves or we cannot be His disciple. It is true that the cost to follow Jesus is great. But what He is really saying is that our love and commitment to them can’t be greater than our love and commitment to God. It is not easy to see the true result of paying the price of giving our whole selves to the Lord. But if we look through the lens of faith, we might just come to believe and understand and see that there is no comparison between the cost of doing God’s will and the blessings that come with that commitment. When we commit ourselves fully to Jesus: Our lives become enriched with meaning and power. Our relationships become strengthened by the power of unconditional love. We experience a kind of peace that can only come about when we live authentically. Our struggles and crosses never win, but al-ways lead to growth and new opportunities. The world around us begins to be transformed by the power of God working through us. No, God is not insisting on us to hate any-one including ourselves but He is trying to point out that our love for Him must be greater then the rest. God bless, Deacon John

DO YOU KNOW YOUR TRIBUNAL?

The Tribunal is available to help people who have experienced divorce and who may wish to remarry in the Catholic Church. When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two reali-ties. On one hand the durable bond of mar-riage. This is God’s law. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Even though a Catholic wedding was celebrated,

perhaps there was some deficiency in the consent of the parties involved regarding intentions, understanding or ability? The annulment procedure addresses these cir-cumstances. If you are divorced and want to marry in the Church or remarried outside the Catholic Church, please tele-phone the Tribunal Office at 222 North l7th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 (215) 587-3750
