WHY????? Seriously. Why? Why did it have to be this way? Why couldn’t someone have stopped it? Why couldn’t they have simply avoided Jerusalem alto-gether? Why couldn’t Jesus have toned down His message, softened things a bit, once He knew some of the authorities were angry at Him. Why? These are the kinds of questions regarding the his-torical event we just heard in today’s Gospel we think of. What about the BIG question, the PRO-FOUND questions. Why did Jesus have to suf-fer? Why did God choose this particular way to re-deem the world, why did He choose this way to save us? (And what exactly do we mean by these words—REDEEM and SAVE?) Couldn’t God have chosen a different way? We know He could, so why didn’t He? And how did this make everything better, how does our God dying on the cross repair a broken world, repair broken hearts, and repair the relationship between God and His creation? WHY? The Why, is to keep us contemplating, keep us wondering, keep us searching, keep us question-ing, keep us on the journey. And that’s what Holy Week is, a journey on which we take Jesus’ hand and walk with Him, walk into the Holy City to the waving palms and cries of “Hosanna,” walk with Him to the Upper Room to share a meal with his friends, walk with Him as He stands before the Sanhedrin and Pilate and Herod. And yes, we also walk with Him up to Golgotha. We walk with Jesus not because we understand everything, but simply because we believe in His great love for us, a love so deep and so profound that we want nothing more then to respond to His love with love of our own, no matter how imperfect that may be. Have a prayerful Holy week, Deacon John

Volunteer Opportunities! For almost ten years, the St. Hilary Conference of the Society of St. Vincent DePaul has been involved at Hope Lodge, a residence for out of town cancer patients receiving treatment at area hospitals. Once a month a group of ladies headed by Marian Stevens, hosts a Tea for these patients and their caregivers. Marian would like to step aside and we need someone (or more) to take her place. Also, our conference is always eager to wel-come new members to help with all of our pro-jects. To find out more, please contact the rectory @ 215 884-3242
DO YOU KNOW YOUR TRIBUNAL?
The Tribunal is available to help people who have experienced divorce and who may wish to remarry in the Catholic Church. When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two reali-ties. On one hand the durable bond of mar-riage. This is God’s law. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Even though
a Catholic wedding was celebrated, perhaps there was some deficiency in the consent of the parties involved regarding intentions, understanding or ability? The an-nulment procedure addresses these circumstances. If you are divorced and want to marry in the Church or remarried outside the Catholic Church, please tele-phone the Tribunal Office at 222 North l7th Street, Phil-adelphia, PA 19103 (215) 587-3750
