Oh, by the way…

Where to begin? On Monday, 17 July, Fr. Bert paid one of his periodic visits. He told Rachel

and me to sit down. He needed to tell us something. The story was

laid out to us. Keeping in his persona, he didn’t share too much

information with too many people too early. Over the next 2 & ½

months the story unfolded. Early on, he designated Rachel and me

as powers of attorney for his medical issues. Thanks to the hospital

for providing all the legal forms. Uncommon for him, he was

rather definitive in certain areas. Marita was to handle the parish

finances; Rachel was to take over his personal finances, I was in

charge of the funeral liturgy. Even there, he had a few specific

directions. Vestments were definitive. Watch and John Deere

wallet! All viewing was to be at Frains. (Normally a priest’s

viewing is in church.) The funeral dinner was to be at St. Peter

where he had served as Pastor. He did suggest a few songs for the

Liturgy. Everything else about the Eucharist was left to me. Rachel

and I along with Frain Mortuary have honored all his wishes.

Friday, 22 September, 8:00 p.m., an ambulance took him to PMH. Fr. Bert was life-lined from

PMH to South Bend at 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Rachel stayed by his side till Saturday morning (37 hours

awake). Rachel and I have tried to keep activity as much as “business as regular” around here. From

24 September, with the exception of Monday, 25 September we were in South Bend every day

dealing with medical issues. Words cannot express the dedication and support from the multitude of

doctors and nurses in ICU at South Bend Memorial. At 5:00 a.m. Friday, we received a call to return

to Memorial Hospital ASAP. Thankfully, he had his last two breaths with Rachel. It is difficult to put

into words at flat-lining, intubating, extubating, a cue ball procedure and many other procedures

where decisions had to made. We very appreciate the prayers and support many shared with us. May

he rest in Peace.

MESSAGE OF POPE FRANCIS

FOR WORLD MISSION DAY 2017

Mission at the heart of the Christian faith

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Once again this year, World Mission Day gathers us around the person of Jesus, “the

very first and greatest evangelizer” (Paul VI, Evangelii Nuntiandi, 7), who continually sends

us forth to proclaim the Gospel of the love of God the Father in the power of the Holy Spirit.

This Day invites us to reflect anew on the mission at the heart of the Christian faith. The

Church is missionary by nature; otherwise, she would no

longer be the Church of Christ, but one group among

many others that soon end up serving their purpose and passing away. So it

is important to ask ourselves certain questions about our Christian identity

and our responsibility as believers in a world marked by confusion,

disappointment and frustration, and torn by numerous fratricidal wars that

unjustly target the innocent. What is the basis of our mission? What is the

heart of our mission? What are the essential approaches we need to take in

carrying out our mission?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, fr. K

Quick one-liners for you:

◼As a reminder to all prospective Confirmation students, your mandatory class meeting, as stated

during the Rite of Enrollment by fr. K, will be on Wednesday, October 25th beginning at 7:15 PROMPT

and last until 9:15. If you have questions, please contact the Cluster Office early, do not wait until the last

minute. Thanks. ◼The Lazarus Collection will be next weekend, October 21 & 22. The focus this month will be toiletries.

Immediate needs given to us by the Pulaski County Food Pantry are shampoo and conditioner; men’s &

women’s deodorant, men’s and women’s body wash and razors. Thank you for your continued support.

It is very much appreciated. ◼The Liturgy classes at St. Joseph Parish will resume this coming Tuesday, October 17th at 6:30 P.M.

Cluster News!!!! With Appreciation

Thank you all for the care and support given to my brother, Fr. Bert

Woolson, during his illness.

Thanks also to all those who arranged for and participated in the

viewing, funeral Mass, luncheon and burial.

I will especially treasure the many stories shared with me of how my brother touched

your lives. It is comforting to know that he was loved and appreciated by so many.

Know that you will be in my prayers.

With gratitude,

Anne Woolson Campbell
