Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time GOD’S SUMMONS Confronted with God’s power and majesty, the first response of the prophet Isaiah was to acknowledge his sinfulness. “Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips,” he said aloud. Likewise, with his empty fishing nets dramatically filled at Jesus’ instruction, Peter fell to his knees and cried out, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” Next, Peter got up. He docked his boats then left to follow Jesus. Isaiah also had a dramatic change of heart. When he heard the Lord say, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” Isaiah answered, “Here I am, send me.” We are summoned daily by the Risen Lord. We are reminded of the saving power of the gospel and know in our heart of hearts that, as St. Paul wrote, believing in anything else won’t lead to anything. What will it take for you to move past your sinfulness? What will it take for you to get off your knees? de Sales. For St. Dominic Savio, holiness consists of always being cheerful and of doing one’s ordinary duties, extraordinarily well. His Feast Day is on May 6.

Quinto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario EL LLAMADO DE DIOS Al ser confrontado con el poder y la majestad de Dios, la primera respuesta del profeta Isaías es reconocer su pecado. “Ay de mí, estoy perdido porque soy un hombre de labios impuros”, dice en voz alta. De la misma manera, con las redes de pesca repentinamente llenas con la orden de Jesús, Pedro cae de rodillas y clama: “Señor, apártate de mí porque soy un pecador”. Después Pedro se levanta, deja atracado su bote y sigue a Jesús. Isaías también experimentó un cambio impresionante. Cuando escuchó al Señor que decía: “¿A quién voy a enviar? ¿Quién irá por nosotros?”, Isaías respondió: “Aquí estoy, envíame”. Somos llamados diariamente por el Señor resucitado. D eacon Fabian Cardenas, SDB, was born in Bogotá, Colombia. He studied at Juan del Rizzo

Salesian School where he met the Salesian community and charism. He started his Way of Formation on January 22, 2006. He made his First Vows on January 19, 2008 at the Salesian Novitiate in La Ceja, Antioquia, Colombia. From 2008-2010 he studied Philosophy at Minuto de Dios University in Bogotá, Colombia. He taught religion and philosophy for the Salesian pre-novices in 2011. In 2012 he was in-charge of a Salesian boarding school in Colombia. From 2013-2016 he studied Theology in the Pontifical Xavierian University, directed by the Society of Jesus in Bogotá, Colombia. On that same year, he was part of the Salesian Community of Berkeley, California, where he was accepted to continue with his Formation. He was ordained as Deacon on May 15, 2018, here at Saint Dominic Savio Church in Bellflower, California and will be ordained to the priesthood on March 25, 2019, at Niño Jesús Salesian Parish in Bogotá, Colombia.

We all are invited to pray for him and wish the best for his Ministry among the Young.

E l diácono Fabián Cárdenas, SDB, nació en Bogotá, Colombia. Estudió en la escuela salesiana

Juan del Rizzo, donde conoció a la comunidad salesiana y al carisma. Inició su Camino de Formación el 22 de enero de 2006. Hizo sus primeros votos el 19 de enero de 2008 en el noviciado salesiano en La Ceja, Antioquia, Colombia. De 2008 a 2010, estudió Filosofía en la Universidad Minuto de Dios en Bogotá, Colombia. En 2011 enseñó religión y filosofía para los pre novicios salesianos. En 2012 estuvo a cargo de un

internado salesiano en Colombia. Desde 2013-2016 estudió teología en la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, dirigida por la Compañía de Jesús en Bogotá, Colombia. Ese mismo año, formó parte de la Comunidad Salesiana de Berkeley, California, donde fue aceptado para continuar con su Formación. Fue ordenado como diácono el 15 de mayo de 2018, aquí en la iglesia Santo Domingo Savio en Bellflower, California, y será ordenado sacerdote el 25 de marzo de 2019 en la Parroquia Salesiana Niño Jesús en Bogotá, Colombia.

Todos estamos invitados a orar por él y desear lo mejor para su ministerio entre los jóvenes.

PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN Did you know? KNOW WHEN WORDS ARE WARNING SIGNS Some predators will use comments and conversations to groom potential victims. Be on guard any time an adult is talking to a child about sex, no matter how they’re presenting it (hygiene, reproduction, etc.). Physical flattery can be another red flag — predators sometimes try to make children feel good about themselves by commenting on their physical appearance.
