Dear Parish Family and Friends: Before you read or hear about it somewhere, I'm back working in entertainment again. I was invited by the director of "1776" to be part of a professional production to be staged 14 times at the Kimball Theater in Merchants Square, Williamsburg, late June and early July. I've enjoyed a lifetime of music and seven seasons doing live enter- tainment at Busch Gardens, but doing theatre moves the whole thing to a different level. I'm working with great people and it doesn't cut into time spent on St. Cyprian's concerns. "1776" is a musical first produced on Broadway in the late 60's. It's huge. There are nearly 30 people in the show (two women only) and lots of opinionated men (the Con- tinental Congress) who spend most of the show arguing about politics. The show ends with a dramatic signing of the Declaration of Independence. I'm portraying Caesar Rodney, delegate from Delaware, who, despite having cancer, is committed to the cause of Independence. I had forgotten how alive the actor's moment actually is. There's so much to think about and then simply forget because thought gets in the way of making performance fresh. The actor has to take in the surroundings, including twenty-nine other actors who are also taking in everything. Each has an intention, an objective and obstacles to overcome. The story has to clearly emerge out of a huge field of complex personal moments that the audience sees through an invisible fourth wall. If nothing else, I'm having some innocent fun among people who love what they are doing. And I'm gaining the insights that come with doing living theatre again. Blessings, David S T . Dear Parish Family and Friends:

Before you read or hear about it somewhere, I'm back working in entertainment again. I was invited by the director of "1776" to be part of a professional production to be staged 14 times at the Kimball Theater in Merchants Square, Williamsburg, late June and early July. I've enjoyed a lifetime of music and seven seasons doing live enter-tainment at Busch Gardens, but doing theatre moves the whole thing to a different level. I'm working with great people and it doesn't cut into time spent on St. Cyprian's concerns.

"1776" is a musical first produced on Broadway in the late 60's. It's huge. There are nearly 30 people in the show (two women only) and lots of opinionated men (the Con-tinental Congress) who spend most of the show arguing about politics.

Do You Know? June 2013—page 7

From the Desk of the Senior Warden- Fannie J. Walls Do You Know? (Part 2)

In Part 1 last month, terms were defined that play a role in membership in the Episcopal Church and Part 2 uses those terms in a story.

A family of seven has been attending a local Episcopal church for six months. The mother inquired of the Rector as to how her family could become members. He told her that Holy Baptism makes one a member of the Christian church, but there are specific National and Diocesan Canons that must be followed for the Episcopal Church. He gave her the following requirements, which the Rector completes or assigns someone to complete, for each family member as follows:

1. For mother and father – they would need to process transfer forms through the parish administrator which would be then

sent to their previous church. Once the form is received, their names would be placed in the Parish Register as to date of trans-fer, name of previous church. In addition, they would be removed from the roll of their previous church.

2. For their infant daughter – she would need the sacrament of Holy Baptism and its instructions. Once completed, her name, parents’ names, godparents’ names would be recorded in the Parish Register.

3. For their 16 year-old son – he would need to attend inquirers’ classes/confirmation classes for instruction. After the set number of classes, he would be presented for Confirmation by the Bishop. Once completed, his name, Bishop’s name and date would be recorded in the Parish Register.

4. For the aunt and her parents - they would be received into the church since they were members of a denomination that bap-tizes and confirms. Required forms would be processed and when completed they would be received by the Bishop at Confirmation in the Rite called Reception. Their names would be recorded in the Parish Register of the receiving church and removed from the Parish Register of their previous church. Note: There are other canonical criteria that a Rector may appropriately use.

All of the above individuals are considered adult communicants (16 years and older), except the infant daughter, because they would have received Holy Communion at least three (3) times during the previous year. In addition, when these communicants have been faithful in …...

attending church/corporate worship,

in working,

in praying,

and in giving (financially) ….. they are considered communicants in good standing.

All adult communicants should work diligently to become communicants in good standing.

June-National Caribbean-American Heritage Month

On June 2005, the House of Representatives unanimously adopted H. Con. Res. 71, sponsored by Congresswoman Bar-bara Lee recognizing the significance of Caribbean people and their descendants in the history and culture of the United States. On February 14, 2006, the resolution similarly passed the Senate, culminating a two-year, bipartisan and bicameral effort.

Since the declaration, the White House has issued an annual proclamation recognizing June as Caribbean-American Herit-age Month. This year marks the eighth anniversary of June as National Caribbean Heritage Month. This month, we cele-brate our forefathers and mothers, yet, most importantly, our Founding Father Alexander Hamilton to Journalist Malcolm Gladwell who have shaped the American dream.

Dear Church Family,

As we move through this period of transition let us ask for guidance as we pray the following prayer:

―O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light riseth up in darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what thou wouldest have us to do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices, and that in thy light we may see light, and in thy straight path may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
