    THE COLOURFUL SHOW WINDOW

India is diverse with myriad cultures andbackgrounds;hence,colours/shape andsizes are some of the foremost areas thatimpact the overall look of a modularkitchen.“The colour trends dif fer acrossthe nation. While the western Indiaprefers the metallic look, the southprefers vibrant colours, and north andeast go for subtle and pastel shades,”explains Anuj Jain,CEO,JSL LifestyleLtd.People are also increasingly optingfor ‘aesthetic’kitchens, which they areproud to show off .

Although there are many colouroptions, the most popular combination is white with stainless steel f inish. And thenthere are textures, colours and decals onshutters, making kitchens not only highly usable, but also the show window of thehouse.“Bold colours set the tone for this year’s kitchens with contrast ing shades onsecondary cabinets.Choosing one or two valiant colours look classy;avoid multi-coloured kitchens.Creating a look of a warehouse with rustic f inishes andstructural elements with industrial st irred

light equipments is trending.Pastoralshades also look rich. For an unf inishedlook,oil-rubbed bronze for f ixtures andbrassware in utensils can be replaced withstainless steel,”suggests Merchant.

    THE 'GREEN' KITCHEN

Stainless steel is one of the most greenand recyclable materials.Tested for ‘Zeroradioactive radiation’,it is the most safeand user-friendly ‘green’kitchen. There isno usage of wood in such kitchens;hence, there is no cutt ing of trees. All theingredient s used here are safe and emitno harmful fumes or smell.Safety measures, suitable p lacement of electricappliances, sharp or heavy metals, chemical or cleaning supplies, lightersand match boxes are top priority. Also, proper f looring, open ventilat ion, heighted light p lugs and f ixtures areequally important.“With the carbonfootprint [increasing],it is important toact responsibly by using energy ef f iciently.Heavy appliances like electricstoves and refrigerators consume loads of  energy every day.You can save energy by correct ly sett ing the thermostat in thefridge and the f reezer.Vacuuming the

condenser coils on the rear or botto

m of  the f ridge every six months also helps,”advises Merchant.

Lighting is another important aspect.“Such kitchens should have lights thatmake use of motion sensors that only activate when the units are opened.Energy ef f iciency can also be taken careof with built-in refrigerator and wallchimney,”adds Rohin Ramchandani, managing director,Grandeur.

    THE CLASSIC KITCHEN

The classic kitchen is ef f iciently blended with technology and new age materials. This concept paves the way for bringing

modern convenience to any tradit ionally-styled kitchen, providing f lexibility in thelayout along with an open feel.A mix of  tradit ional and industrial materialscoupled with sleek and clean lines makethis kitchen modern, but with an ethnictouch.“Customers have now becomemore discerning, and are always lookingfor better designs,f inish and aesthetics interms of interiors of any space.Thekitchen industry is changing;biggerspaces are being allocated to kitchens. This kitchen theme lays great stress ondesign and functionality that f its thepreferences of almost all customers,”concludes Jain.

kitchen issingle-handedly responsible for your family’s well-being,”stresses Sanvari Alagh Nair,director,Houseproud.in.Here’s how youcan keep your kitchen clean.

    COOKTOPS

This is where your meals are

cooked;hence regularmaintenance of the kitchen topis a must.Dimple Nahar,owner,2Divine,The Lifestyle Temple, suggests,“Wipe the stove af tereach use.For coated cook tops, use a soft sponge with a mild washing liquid.Remove controlknobs and wash with dish- washing liquid;dry them wellbefore attaching them back.”

    COUNTERTOPS

Keeping your countertopsalways sparkling clean is crucial.

Every night, ensure thecountertops are cleaned with amicro-f ibre cloth, water and acleaning liquid.Suggests Nair,“Disinfect the countertops atthe earliest ,especially if therehas been a spill or leakage.” Apply a protective grout sealertwice a year to keep the ants atbay.
