Notes from THE DESK OF THE PASTOR Reflections on 6th Sunday of Easter May 1, 2016: When was the last time that you felt overwhelmed with all that you needed to do? When was the last time you felt that everything you touched was falling to pieces? When was the last time you felt you had no time for prayer or for yourself? My friends these are the times we need to pray the most and I suspect we have all had such moments. These are the times that we need to be and can be most enriched by God and have something to offer to others. God gifts extraordi-nary gifts to us if we keep and live the words of Jesus. Jesus promises us the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus wishes us to live our lives in His peace, a peace that is a calm and trust in the Lord. Part of Jesus’ meaning of peace is the freedom to do good for others. Jesus words are an opportunity for transformation. With the weather improving and the desire to be outdoors more have you considered a prayer walk or time just to marvel at the wonders of creation and offer grati-tude to the Lord? Have you ever considered taking an extra fifteen or twenty minutes to slowly read the Bible? The peace of the Lord be with you. Amen. May is Mary’s month: May is one of the months that the Church calls us to recognize our Blessed Mother Mary in a special way. Praying the Rosary and supporting Marian devotions are wonderful ways to pray and reflect upon Mary in the life of the Church and our journey to salvation. The Rosary is prayed each day during the week following the 9A.M. Mass. Please join us for Mass and the Rosary if you are able. Thank you to Religious education Teachers: Our heartfelt thanks to MS. Jennifer Foster, Mrs. Maryellen Jennings, and all of our wonderful religious education teach-ers, aids and support staff who so willingly give of their time week after week. Thanks to their sharing of their faith and their time our students have learned much about their faith. Farewell and Good Luck to our Seminarian Douglas Barrett as he bids farewell to us this weekend to return home to his Archdiocese in Canada to be ordained to the Diaconate and Priesthood, God willing. Douglas has been a wonderful weekend addition this past year. Thank you, Douglas. Congratulations to our students who made their first Holy Communions yesterday. 2nd collection this weekend: His Eminence Cardinal Sean has authorized a special second collection this weekend to help with the relief efforts in Ecuador. Please be as helpful as you can. Thank you. 2nd Collection Next Weekend May 7th & 8th, 2016: Communications Collection Next weekend’s collection supports the needs of the Catholic Communications Campaign to spread the Gospel in the various media ways. Thank you.

Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers Needed: Recently we have some wonderful examples of out-standing ministry by our Lectors and Eucharistic Minis-ters. We are looking for Lectors and Eucharistic Minis-ters for both the weekend and during the weekday Masses. We need others to assist them and to share in the joy of serving the Lord. This is one of the most pow-erful ways that we can say thank you to God for bless-ings and use our Baptismal gifts to serve God. Please come forward and speak with pastor or staff members of call the rectory. We will train you. A community of believ-ers such as ours is always enriched by volunteers and the gifts they bring to service. We really need your help.

Ascension Thursday: Thursday May 5th is Ascension Thursday and it is a Holyday of Obligation. Masses will be on Wednesday May 4th at 4 P.M. and on Thursday May 5th at 9 A.M., 5 P.M, and 7:30 P.M.

Catholic Appeal: This annual effort supports the good works of the Archdiocese of Boston. To date 165 pledg-es have been made for $83,227, which represents 94% of our goal. Thank you. Adult Education The Nativity is the subject of our adult education this week. May is the month of Mary and it is not too late to join us as we study the important events of Mary’s life. Classes are Monday or Thursday at 10:00am in the O’Brien Room of the Rectory.

Notes from Barbara

In today’s Gospel we read the words: “Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” That is a lot easier said than done as worry seems to be something that is inherent in our human nature. It is impossible if we attempt to do this by relying only on our own resources; our own abilities; our own knowledge. But I thank God this is not necessary because he has sent to us the Advocate to be with us; to teach, enlighten, guide, strengthen, reassure and console us. All I have to do is ask and trust in Him and I always find peace, a peace that can come only from God. God is always there to help me with the vicissitudes of my very ordinary life. I just put my troubles and problems before Him, attentively listen to his response and try follow the path he has planned me and I know that I am not alone. I don’t want to leave the impression that I feel that I have no part to play in the resolutions of the problems and hard-ships I meet in life. It is my responsibility to do all that I can to help myself but once I have done all that is humanly pos-sible then it is time to let go of my worries, my obsessions, my self-reliance and turn it over to God. Turning things over to God does not meant that things will turn out as I hoped, as I planned but they do turn out, for the best, according to God’s plan and once again I am forced to concede that God knows what I need (as opposed to want) better than I do.

STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE Sharing: Time Talent Treasure WHAT FLOATS YOUR BOAT? WHAT TURNS YOU ON? WHAT GETS YOU EXCITED? AND WHAT SPURS YOU INTO ACTION? Today is the first of May. Is it the weather that gets you going? Is it being involved in outdoor activities instead of being more indoors? Is it grilling and outdoor parties with family and friends? Vacations? What gives you joy? Is joy sea-sonal? “.....Love one another as I love you....” Does Jesus’ second greatest Commandment give us joy or is it another burden that we must live up to? Note: Jesus did not say that we must LIKE every one. What’s the difference? We are all God’s children and He loves all--those who are great, good, not so good, and those for whom trouble is a definite char-acter element. He loves those who try and those to whom God is nonexistent. He knows that some people are more fun, lovable, hard working, loyal, and so much more that makes us attracted to them. Some of all kinds are in our fami-lies. Some are in our churches. Some are our neighbors. And some, when we see them, if we see them at all, we try to avoid. And some are evil in this world of turmoil. All of us as children of God must recognize this adoption in each other. We must love and respect each other. We don’t contribute to another’s difficulties. We don’t ignore, but rather pray for each other when we become aware of another’s needs. We pray for our enemies, for good to overcome evil. We help when in a position to do so. We treat others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Do you like to be criticized? No one else does either. We don’t necessarily have to invite another to dinner or to join us for a ‘play date’ if we don’t LIKE him/her. But he or she deserves the respect and help that we wish for ourselves or families. We don’t only assist those that we like. We show love-respect to all those who cross our paths--for maybe they are there for a reason. You might just be the reason that someone will be there, in your space. Do what turns you on; gives you pleasure; and never ignore, but rather find new joy in the unexpected put be-fore you. God may be opening a new door to you. Will you go in or refuse because it is not what you like to do or are used to doing? Liking and loving, each gives you a special and different kind of joy. Liking, though more comfortable, can be boring at times. Loving is deeper; affects more of our inner life; rests in our soul; allows God to speak to us and we to hear Him. Loving is a gift, not a burden.
