It is a day of fast and abstinence from meat for all adult Catholics in good health. The imposition of ash-es will take place at the 9:00 a.m. (English) & 7:30 p.m. Tri-lingual Mass. Ashes will also be distributed at a 12 noon (English) service. Blessed palms from
last year can be dropped off until the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday in the morning for this year’s ashes.

St. Vincent de Paul Car Program Gives Back Vincentian Outreach Program
St. Augustine should share in the profits. For every car, truck or van, running or not. St. Vincent de Paul will give back to our church $75/$200 per vehicle. Maybe you don’t have a vehicle, but a family member, friend or neighbor has an old or neglected vehicle in their driveway that they would like to dis-pose of. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Thursday Volunteers are needed to help with food deliveries on Thursdays for the St. Augustine Helping Hands Food Pan-try. There are usually two big deliveries a month — 75 to 150 cases of food. Volunteers are needed to help store the food. Reception of First Sacraments Our Brooklyn Diocese requires that children and teens prepar-ing for the reception of Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirma-tion attend Religious Education classes for at least two years. They also participate in an immediate prep program which will begin shortly. Children attending Catholic Schools: must participate in our parish immediate prep programs to receive sacraments here in the Spring. Please call Sr. Ellen at ext. 14 as soon as possible.
How hard can it be to believe that we are all temples of God! Oh, we may believe that about some people, but everyone - the beggar on the street, the neighbor who dumps garbage on your property, the boss who harasses you, the business person who cheats, the politician who
lies, the terrorist who kills? And then Jesus tells us to love them, to love our enemies! Not just that, but says we should be perfect as God is perfect! Is he kidding? Unfortunately, we tend to act as if Jesus was kidding. We get angry. We yell. We fight. We retaliate in whatever way we can from scowling at the beggar to going to war with the terrorist. But this is NOT Jesus’s way, and this is not supposed to be our way either if we dare call ourselves Christian. This Sunday’s readings are a reminder that we are all meant to be holy and that God can help us in that pursuit. It’s not easy, but its possible. Avoid the temptation to dismiss this message as extreme. Think how much better the world would be if we all took it seriously. ~Pax Christi Metro New York
