Mass Intentions for the Week WEEKLY PARISH CALENDAR


The call to be a disciple is challenging. We must strive for the highest standards. Jesus lifts the bar higher and says that we must do more than the minimum requirements of the old law. We must be perfect as our God is perfect. In the Gospel, Jesus is always aware of the law that has been passed down over the centuries to those who believe in God. Jesus requires more of His disciples. He wants them not just to refrain from hatred, but also to pro-actively love others, even, or especial-ly, our enemies. If God can love even the greatest sinner and send the Son to die for them, who are we not to love them. Love does not mean we are to have warm “fuzzies” about everyone, but that we should seek out the good that is in each person whom God has created. We must love and pray for those who love us, but we must go out of our way to do whatever we can for the benefit of others. We must think of others as our broth-ers and sisters. That does not mean that we have to agree with everything that they say or do, but we must give them the respect that God gives them. We are not to condone their wrong doing or sins, but be willing to forgive as God forgives. After all, isn’t that what we pray each time we say the Lord’s Prayer: “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespasses against us” Is it possi-ble to love our enemies and to forgive those who have hurt us? By ourselves, no, it is not possible. But if we live the Gospel, strive to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect and have faith, anything and everything is possi-ble.

F : Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are

obligatory days of universal fasting and abstinence; therefore all Catholics between the ages of 18 and 60 are bound to observe the fast;

which means limiting oneself to a single full meal, and avoiding food between meals.

However, two very light meals are permitted.

A : All Catholics who have reached their 14th year of age are bound to abstain totally from meat

on All Fridays of Lent.

E D : After a person has received First Communion,

he or she must receive Communion at least once a year, during the Easter Season. The Easter

Season begins with the First Sunday of Lent (March 1st) and continues until

Trinity Sunday (June 7th) Reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation

(Confession) is encouraged during Lent.

Alzheimer’s Support Group Alzheimer’s Education Group

St. Dominic has an Alzheimer’s Support Group

as well as an Alzheimer’s Education Program which meets on a monthly basis

in the classrooms.

The Alzheimer’s Support Group will take place on the last Wednesday of each month
