Dear family of St Dominic, we are in the time of preparation (Advent) for the coming of Jesus, Christmas. As we celebrate this season I want to talk about a tradition that also helps prepare ourselves for the Nativity of our Lord. This tradition is “La Posa-da” “The Posada”. A couple years ago the Knights of Columbus published a guide to celebrate the Posada, I found very helpful a short explanation from that publication. “The Christmas Posada expresses perfect-ly the suspense and surprises of the sea-son. It is a prayer, a play, a party and a gathering for families, parishes and whole communities. It is a celebration that chil-dren and adults can enjoy together, as well as those from all different cultural back-grounds. The word “Posada” means “inn” or “shelter” in Spanish. The inn, of course, is the shelter that Mary and Joseph seek as the Virgin prepares to give birth. In the posada tradition, children dress in period clothes and act out the journey through Bethlehem, going from door to door, seek-ing a safe place for the Christ child to be born. This tradition was brought to the New World by mission-aries in the 16th century who wanted to teach the faith to the people”. This celebration’s only objective is to know and love Jesus and his Blessed Mother. I will invite you to celebrate and participate in the different traditions and devotions that our Church has to offer so we can prepare ourselves for the coming of our Savior. Let us celebrate the joys of Christmas so we may grow together and share in our hearts God’s love. Have a blessed week. Posadas start on December 16 through December 23 at 7:00pm at the Gym.

News from our Pastor, Fr.
Padre Franklin

New to the Community? Welcome to the family of St. Dominic! We are glad that you are here. We hope to have the chance to get to know you in the coming months. It is not required but we invite you to consider registering as a parishioner by completing a registration form after Mass or in the parish office. Why would you benefit from becoming a member of St. Dominic Parish? Benefits of registering as a member of the parish: There is no registration fee but there are eternal rewards! Attending one parish consistently helps you to make friends and develop a sense of com-
munity, something which is hard to find in today’s society. That sense of belonging and the stability of being a member of the parish is especially
important for children. We all need roots and wings. When someone in your family is ready for a sacrament, such as baptism, First Commun-
ion or marriage, the process will be easier because you are already a parishioner. Did you know that church records become part of the historical record used by family ge-
nealogists to trace their ancestors? As a parishioner, you will receive a free subscription to Christ is Our Hope, the popular monthly magazine from the Diocese of Jo-
liet. St. Dominic is part of the Diocese of Joliet. Maybe you want to give back to the community by getting involved in a parish ministry, such as Project Gabriel helping pregnant
moms in difficult situations or the Knights of Columbus doing community service projects. There are lots of ministries to choose from.
Thanks for choosing St. Dominic!
