Independent Living Resource Centre Clients reaching pension age no longer have access to Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped. One of our coordinators facilitated a workshop on Registered Savings Plan for Disabled so people in this situation can access a federal grant for financial stability. This information helps individuals apply for this grant and start the savings program leading to improving their circumstances out of poverty. This workshop gives participants hope for their future.

REFLECTION CORNER

Every act of humility involves dying to pride.

Every act of courage involves dying to cowardice.

Every act of kindness involves dying to cruelty.

And every act of love involves dying to selfishness. And thus the ‘false self’ dies and true self, made in God’s image, is born and reborn and nurtured.

It is by giving that we receive.

It is by forgiving that we ourselves are forgiven.

And it is by dying that we are born to eternal life.”

May God continue to help each of us to let go, to surrender, to die to self and to grow into a new person.

Commissariat of the Holy Land in Canada Good Friday Collection April 19, 2019

Each year on Good Friday, our parish is called to support Christians in the Holy Land. Many Christians in the Holy Land depend on the collection for their lives. As a Pontifical collection requested by Pope Francis, the annual Good Friday Collection helps to maintain not only the Holy Places above all, but also the pastoral, welfare, educational and social works that the Church carries out to the benefit of the Christian brothers and sisters and the local population. With gratitude,

Father Gilles Bourdeau, ofm, Commissary of the Holy Land in Canada

FR. JACK’S CHUCKLE

A man, his wife and mother-in-law went on vacation to the Holy Land and while there the mother-in-law died. The undertaker told them, “you can have her shipped home for $5000, or you can bury her here in the Holy Land for $150.” The man thought for a moment and said “A man died here 2000 years ago, was buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead. I just can’t take that chance. I will ship her home.”
