Our Lady of Guadalupe, Spanish Nuestra Sanora de Guadalupe, also called the Virgin of Guadalupe, in Roman Catholicism, the Virgin Mary in her appearance before Juan Diego in a vision in 1531. The name also refers to the Marian apparition itself. Our Lady of Guadalupe holds a special place in the religious life of Mexico and is one of the most popular religious devotions. Her image has played an important role as a national symbol of Mexico.

According to tradition, Mary appeared to Juan Diego, who was an Aztec convert to Christianity, on December 9 and again on December 12, 1531. She requested that a shrine to her be built on the spot where she appeared, Tepeyac Hill (now in a suburb of Mexico City). The bishop demanded a sign before he would approve construction of a church, however. Mary appeared a second time to Juan Diego and ordered him to collect roses. In a second audience with the bishop, Juan Diego opened his cloak, letting dozens of roses fall to the floor and revealing the image of Mary imprinted on the inside of the cloak—the image that is now venerated in the Basilica of Guadalupe.

2nd Sunday of Advent: December 10

That we are called to live holy lives and invite others

to do the same.

“Prepare the way of the Lord…” - Mark 1:3

We are all called to live a holy life. We are all called to

invite others to live holy lives. Living a stewardship

lifestyle, being grateful and generous with our gifts,

does just that – it puts us on the path to holiness and it

invites others to be holy, too.

ADORATION

ADORATION AWARENESS

“And the Word became flesh and made his dwell-

ing among us" – John 1:14

AS WE AWAIT JESUS DURING ADVENT, JESUS AWAITS US IS IN THE TABERNACLE

“Jesus, my God, I adore You, here present in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar, where You wait day and night to be our comfort while we await Your unveiled presence in heaven."

- John J. Cardinal Carberry "When the Sisters are exhausted, up to their eyes in work; when all seems to go awry, they spend an hour in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. This practice has never failed to bear fruit: they experience peace and strength." - Mother Teresa of Calcutta

During Advent, go to the Fountain of Peace and spend some time with Jesus in adoration.

Tuesday, December 12th, the Blessed Sacrament will be reposed at 6:45 PM due to the 7:00 PM Mass for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Due to the anticipation of many adorers being out of town for Christmas, there will be no scheduled ado-ration from Monday, December 18th through Tuesday, January 2nd. Scheduled adoration will resume on Wednesday, January 3rd.

More adorers are needed and are always wel-come. Adoration is available for all at the sched-uled times. If you would like to sign up for a weekly Hour of adoration, please contact: Kathryn Dawson (281-351-0571) or Marty Lang ([email protected] )
