News from Fr. Angel Dear parish community: May the peace of God be in your hearts and in whatever you do. It is with great joy that I share with you a few thoughts on my first month at this parish. First of all I want to thank you for your love and support for me throughout this month. I’m very grateful to God who placed me here with a community of people who love the Church and want to grow spiritually, as well as those who give their time, talent and treasure to help the mission of the Church to be carried out in our parish community. As once I announced at all the masses, I’m starting getting together for informal gatherings with some groups and close helpers of our parish. This past Sunday, July 21, 2013 I had my first pizza party with the servers and some of their parents and volunteers. We introduced ourselves, talked about our hobbies and enjoyed the pizza and the homemade cookies Kathy Leitzke brought for all of us. We hope to continue getting together with all the servers once a month. I hope to get together with the other groups this summer, so that I get to know all of you so that I may serve you better. Count on my love and prayers for all of you. Yours in Christ: Fr. Angel Anaya St. Andrew Parish Some of our servers and Fr. Angel YOU BELONG HERE

Welcome Brian WrightsonDear Friends,

It is with great joy that my wife and I have come to St. Andrew Parish and School. We are both looking forwardto offering our musical talents each weekend, as we learn from, and grow with the community here! This willbe my tenth year as a music educator, having spent all of my career in Catholic education. I have taught band, choir, music technology, and general music at various schools within the Archdiocese of Milwaukee includingSt. Joseph (Kenosha), Catholic Central (Burlington), St. Catherine's (Racine), and St. Patrick (Elkhorn).Additionally, I've been involved with coordinating liturgical music for every school I've taught at.

I grew up in Roselle, IL and started my career teaching at my own high school alma mater, Driscoll Catholic inAddison, IL. I received my undergraduate degree in music business from Elmhurst College, and my master'sdegree in music education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL. My wife Johnelle McDermott, who was also my high school sweetheart, has been with me through it all! She has accompanied me on herbass guitar, assisted me in concert preparation for the various schools I've been at, helped me to clean, organize, or inventory my work spaces, or simply offered her support along the way.

We both feel so blessed, honored, and excitedto join another vibrant community here at St.Andrew! Johnelle and I currently reside in LakeGeneva with our furry child named Mika(pronounced Meeka). She is a Siberian Husky/Malamute mix who loves to go on walks, play, and eat ice cream! During football season,Mika will help cheer on our favorite team withus, the Pittsburgh Steelers! Terribly sorry to all ofyou Packers/Bears fans out there, Johnelle'sfamily grew up in Pittsburgh and I was requiredto convert of course.

While acting as the new Music Director for St.Andrew Parish, and the classroom music teacher at St. Andrew School, I will continue on in my role as MusicCoordinator for St. Patrick Parish in Elkhorn, (alternating shifts with my former student, the extremely talentedVinny Sauer, who will be joining you on Saturday evenings). I'm truly grateful to Father Jim Schuerman, for thetrust he has placed in me to sustain and continue to build on the quality music program here at St. AndrewParish & School. My goal for St. Andrew Church is to find more singers and instrumentalists for our wonderfulchoir (especially guitarists/percussionists!), and start a Youth/Teen Music Group to lead the music for liturgies onthe first Saturday of each month. If you are interested, please feel free to contact me at my email:[email protected] Also be on the lookout for an informational music meeting: date/time TBA shortly!

Thanks to all for the wonderful welcome my wife, Johnelle and I have received so far!! God's blessing to all ofyou, live Jesus in our hearts forever!!

Summer at St. Andrews

SPECIAL THANKS to Monica and Jim Damrow, ourchairpersons for our Parish Festival, and the many, many parishvolunteers who helped them. Your service was extraordinaryand without your hard work our festival would not take place. IT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS BECAUSE OF YOU!

This is always such a fantastic time in our parish. People cometogether for the food, entertainment and community that our

festival offers. We come together to celebrateGod’s goodness and His bountiful Love.

Thank you everyone who attended and for being part of our time together. God bless you all.

July 20 & 21, 2013Dear Parishioners,

I waited a few weeks to write my "farewell" to you because I had a good sense that I would learn of my newappointment during that time. I was recently appointed to the position of Pastoral Transition Minister for theArchdiocese. Within this position, I assist brother priests, especially pastors, in the event that, for example, theyincur illness and need pastoral coverage. I anticipate holding this position for one year. During this time, I may beable to help out the parish and I certainly welcome that opportunity. So we may very well see each other from timeto time.

I have enjoyed my stay at St. Andrew's. I sincerely appreciate all of the cards and the verbal well wishes andencouragement that I've received over the past several months. I am going to leave you with St. Teresa of Avil's"Bookmark," a brief poem found in her prayer book after her death in 1582. St. Teresa is a Doctor of the Church, and one of our most loved saints. She still continues to influence many today. St. Teresa: "Let nothing disturbyou. Let nothing frighten you. All things are passing away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things.Whoever has God lacks nothing: God alone suffices."

May Jesus' peace strengthen and guide you,

Sincerely,

Father Gary Nowicki

Farewell

Keep Holy the Sabbath

For the Son of Manis Lord of the Sabbath.

Matthew 12:8When was the last time you really stopped to consider the Sabbath?

The world is encroaching on Sundays. Stores are open, kids often have sports, we rush around to tie up

loose ends and prepare for the week ahead.Going to Mass sets Sunday apart, but is it enough to make it sacred?

If Jesus walked into the sanctuary of my Sunday, would he be furious, flipping tables like he did when the people

turned the temple into a marketplace?I have to wonder.

What if we did something different? What if we took our Sundays back? What if we returned to the Sabbath and kept it holy?

Our spirits and our families are crying for rest, for peace, for time together.A change like this happens through intention, not by default.

We don’t have to do things the way the way the world says;We don’t always have to go with the flow -especially when the flow could drown us.

Stop and think about Sunday this week.
