Dear Parishioners, In commencing Ordinary Time, the Church presents two beautiful vocation stories for our reflection. The calling of Samuel is a reminder that God calls us, but sometimes we need others to help us recognize the call. Through it all, though, when God calls, there can be only one response that adequately expresses that for which we were created: “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening!” The calling of the first disciples is beautifully narrated in John’s Gospel today. Notice that these are the very first words spoken by Jesus in that Gospel. They come in the form of a question. Jesus asks, “What are you looking for?” - a very important question that Jesus likewise asks us. More importantly, notice the next words! When the disciples ask where Jesus lives, Jesus extends an invitation—”Come and see.” Jesus gives us an invitation to explore where he dwells, how he teaches, how he touches people of faith and performs great signs and wonders. Come and see what Jesus does in us!

Devotedly yours in Christ,

Father Gabe

Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family... 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time - In today’s first reading, we hear Samuel respond eagerly, “Here I am!” each time the Lord calls him. May we, too, be listening for the call of God in our lives and be ready to say like the psalmist, “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.” 1 Samuel 3:4; Psalm 40

Reflections on Today’s Readings

Focus: We are to use our everyday actions and conversations to help attract others to Jesus. Through their witness of Jesus as the Messiah, John the Baptist and Saint Andrew are instrumental to the world coming to know about Jess and His mission on earth. By telling a friend or relative about Jesus, which is what these men did, we are continuing this work of evangelization today.

Liturgy of the Word: In today’s first reading, Eli teaches Samuel how to respond to God’s call, and Samuel learns well. The second reading teaches that our bodies are to be used by us to glorify God. In the Gospel, John the Baptist tells his followers that Jesus is the Messiah.

Masses: Sat: 5:30 p.m. Sun: 7:30 a.m. Sun: 9:00 a.m. Sun: 10:30 a.m. Sun: 12:00 NN. Sun: 7:30 p.m.

Ministry Equips us to deepen our love for God and share our faith…

Instagram: Photo and Video Posting Dangers for Young People Teens and tweens frequently post photos online using their cell phones. One of the

most popular mobile applications (apps) for photo sharing is called Instagram…Instagram allows members to digitally edit, upload and share photos and short videos with other members through the Instagram website, email, and other social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Tumbler, and Flickr—all with a single click. The biggest danger for young people is that the photos and videos that they are posting on Instagram are accessible to countless unintended viewers…which means the images can be viewed by anyone in the world. Fact of Life This Thursday will mark 41 dark years since abortion became legal in the United States. Since then there have been over 55 million babies lost to abortion in our country. Every year since 1973, the March for Life takes place in Washington, D.C.. The March for Life began as a small demonstration and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. The peaceful demonstration is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time. Hundreds of thousands of Americans will march to advocate for life this Thursday. There will also be prayerful demonstrations all across the country. Please go to Marchforlife.com for more details.

Let us all continue to pray for an end to abor-tion. The United States Conference of Catholic Bish-ops’ website states: “Everyone can find a way to praise and thank God for the gift of life and to ask for the protection for each sacred human life. Only with prayer-prayer that storms the heavens for justice and mercy, prayer that cleanses our hearts and souls- will the culture of death that surrounds us today be replaced with a culture of life.”

SCHOOL

School Support Sunday

Sunday, January 25 Each year, our parish holds a special “School Support Sunday” Collection. Through the collection, we ask parishioners to make a donation which directly benefits the students

attending St. Anastasia Catholic School. Currently, tuition cov-ers only approximately 2/3 of the school’s cost. The collection proceeds, along with each family’s pledge and fundraising efforts are necessary to supplement the tuition and maintain a high caliber and competitive Catholic education at St. Anas-tasia Catholic School. Your contribution is very important. The strong support of St. Anastasia school families for this collec-tion encourages parishioners to also donate. As you contrib-ute, please consider the many benefits the children receive from the education which the St. Anastasia parish, faculty, and staff provide. Please turn in your contribution in an envelope labeled “School Support Sunday Collection” to the school office or leave it in the collection basket at church any time now through January 25.

Thank you!

Important Reminders:

Don’t forget that Bulletin announcements should be submitted 2 weeks prior to the requested publication date!
