F riday, Sept 16th All Weekend See our new National Mammal: the Buffalo at the Adirondack Buffalo Co, 3187 Blue Ridge Rd in North Hudson. All Weekend Smokey the Bear will show up at several events throughout the weekend. Fri-Sat at the School View National Park Service traveling exhibit “Colonel Young’s Leers Home” that details Young’s work with the Buffalo Soldiers in creating roads in Yosemite Park. 4:30-6pm International Dinner plus Mac and Cheese hosted by 11th Grade. 4:30-7pm “Celebrate our National Parks— Take A Hike” Join Jr. Rangers (12th Graders) and visit a few of our most interesting National Parks. Elementary students can play the National Park Passport Game. 6-7pm “National Parks Centennial Celebration Kick-Off ” – School Auditorium–“TR & John Muir— Environmental Friends/Environmental Advocates” interpreters Joe Wiegand (Teddy Roosevelt) and Dr. Dick Shore ( John Muir) discuss how their friendship impacted the early national parks. 8-10pm Middle/High School Dance. Saturday, Sept 17th 8am Mountain Biking Tour to Essex Chain– with Dave Olbert, meet at Cloud-Splier Outfiers. 8-10am Join Smokey Bear for a FREE Pancake Breakfast Hosted by Newcomb Fire Dept. – School Cafeteria. 9-10am “Running of the Colors” – (4th Grade to adults) One mile race begins and finishes at the Overlook where participants will enjoy hydration, a snack and some really colorful selfies & pictures. 10-2pm Events at the Overlook: e “Best Coffee in Town”- Ed LaCourse, Grade 9 Bake Sale and Car Wash; selfie photo op with Overlook backdrop. 10am Bike to Camp Santanoni with Tony Audino Be at Gatehouse at10:15 and join the Camp Santanoni 1 hr. tour at 11:30am. Choose Your Own Time: Walk into Camp Santanoni (about 10 miles round trip). A tour of the camp will take place at 11:30am. 10-12pm Fishing Derby Pre-K–4th Grade, Ma Winslow’s Pond, Rt. 28N. 10-11am TR’s Famous Ride to the Presidency” Mike Nardacci, great grandson of Mike Cronin, TR’s driver, brings the audience back to that famous ride down 28N to the North Creek train station. 10-11am “Nature Walk with John Muir” - Adirondack Interpretive Center- Rt. 28N. 10-3pm Float Plane Rides--Tom Helms Newcomb Town Beach Dock—Rain Date Sunday 10-3pm “Go Hike a Mountain” – Goodnow Mountain Interpretation. 11:30-1pm Pulled Pork Lunch (hot dogs, too) – School Cafeteria—Sponsored by 10th Grade . 1pm Join Prof. Roy Ginsberg (Newcomb Foreign Affairs Round Table moderator) and Teddy Roosevelt as they discuss TR’s foreign policy and other topics. Q&A aſter talk. 1-2pm John Muir will lead a Scavenger Hunt for Kids in Woodruff Pond. 2-2:30pm FREE Ice Cream Social. 4:30-6pm Bison BBQ School (Bison Burgers, Regular Hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, corn) 12th Grade. 6-7pm “Heroes & Heroines of the National Park Service” School Auditorium -TR, John Muir & Senior Class students will introduce the audience to some of the heroes and heroines who made the National Park Service possible.
