Dear Parishioners,
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard
seed….once
it is sown, it springs up and becomes the
largest of plants…”
(Mark 4: 31-32)
As the Church returns this Sunday to
Ordinary time, Mark’s Gospel carries a
significant message regarding faith and the
Kingdom of God. Sometimes in our zeal to be
faithful disciples of Jesus we are tempted to
“think big”—live a heroic life—die for our faith---
become a missioner in some far off country.
But this line of thinking, when not
practical nor possible, can lead us to do nothing.
We forget the parable of the mustard seed and
ignore Christ’s simple lesson that the Kingdom of
God that dwells within us might be the size of a
tiny seed. So when we refuse to do the little
personal things that might lead others to faith
because the idea is not big enough, the seed stays
within us and does nothing at all.
Today we take the time to honor the
fathers in our families and lives. It would take
more than one day to enumerate the big and small
acts of love, kindnesses and generosity of these
family men. And later this week our Parish will
take time to express its gratitude to the hundreds
(yes, hundreds) of volunteers who through their
big but often times small and unnoticed acts of
service and kindness help to make our St. Aloysius
faith community more and more the Kingdom of
God.
So let this prayer be ours:
Jesus, keep us focused on you
and the ability we each have
to reach one person at a time
through small acts of
faith, kindness and service.
Peace, Sr. Alice

Dear Parishioners,
In dog years we would have spent 14 years
together but in reality it was only two short years. I
would like to thank you for welcoming me since the
day I arrived here at St. Al's; that made it even easier
to serve you to the best of my abilities. As Monsignor
said it so well, " I was happy here" and I was in no
rush to move to another place. I was happy to work
with a very good staff, and I was very happy serving
you all in many different ways. We prayed together
daily, we prayed together in times of joy and
thanksgiving, and we prayed together in many
moments of sadness and difficult times but at the end it
was always God who kept bringing us together through
this one beautiful Catholic faith that we share. I hate
moving because of all the junk we accumulate through
the years, but as you know already, I really enjoy
working with the youth and I feel the call to serve
them so I can invite them to chose God, to chose a
vocation that would make them happy, and make
others happy. Others were influential in my choosing
the priesthood and I have never been happier in my
life. I also believe that I have brought a lot of good to
others through the beautiful vocation of the
priesthood. Two short years together but it was God's
time for us to walk together and pray together. I will
be praying for all of you and I ask you to pray for me
and the young people that I will be serving and ask
God to give you courage to invite others to this
beautiful community of St. Aloysius so it keeps
growing in numbers and in charity. I am sure that if
you do that, St. Al's will be here for another 125 years.
You are invited to attend a bilingual 5:00pm mass of
thanksgiving on Sunday June 28th, 2015.
Blessings and thank you for everything.
