Dear Parishioner,

May our good Lord inspire Father Mino in his

important new ministry leadership among Hispanic youth.

Vaya con Dios.

Welcome to St. Aloysius Parish, Father Edinson.

Lead us in prayer and worship in all the ways that lead us to

choose “the better part”.

† † † † † † † † † † † † †

Our Parish Pastoral Council has had a magnificent

second year and I can’t be more thankful to them. We’ll

read of their particular achievements soon in this bulletin

when president Brain Bambrick gives his report to the

Parish.

Now, I’ll share some notions about a Parish

Pastoral Council in general and its importance for a parish.

Parish leadership must constantly strive to be faithful to

God’s call in articulating the mission of the parish,

animating leadership, and calling forth the gifts which the

Holy Spirit has provided within the people of the parish.

Every member of the parish should accept responsibility for

the Gospel and the total experience of the Church

(tradition).

To accomplish this, the Parish Council is the most

promising way to make sure participation occurs. The goal

of Catholic leadership is not just to provide service for the

people of the parish but to enable them to minister to one

another and to extend our Christian commitment in

everything we do. Thus we become truly a Community of

Faith, the People of God. The age of the Laity is here.

In its rather short existence, our Parish Pastoral

Council has already proven its value to St. Aloysius in

many ways. My heartfelt thanks to each counciler.

† † † † † † † † † † † † †

I haven’t read Pope Francis’ encyclical “Laudato

Si” (Be Praised, O Lord). The title comes from St. Francis

of Assissi’s hymn celebrating God’s creation. Summer is a

good time to catch up with reading and this encyclical will

be at the top of my list. A wag recently noted that the letter

caused the New York Times to do something it never did

before: hail a Papal encyclical as an authoritative teaching.

What I can say now about ‘Laudato Si’ is that it

invites honest discussion on environmental issues and the

excess of science and technology. Let the discussion begin.

† † † † † † † † † † † † †

Our Catholic Christian Church is the most

profoundly global institution in existence. We are a vast

Church of 2.3 billion human beings, but at the same time

the heirs of the 12 disciples our Lord gathered around him

at the Last Supper. The former master general of the

Dominican order, Fr. Timothy Radcliff, writes in a

wonderful work, “What is the Point of Being Christian”,

the following:

St. Aloysius Parish Mission Statement

St. Aloysius Parish is a Roman Catholic

community dedicated to celebrating the life and

word of Jesus Christ. All are welcome to deepen

their spiritual and personal lives through active

participation in weekly Liturgy, the celebration of

the Sacraments, Parish ministries and community

activities. Acknowledging our incompleteness and

our need for God’s grace, we commit ourselves,

through Baptism, to responding to God’s call to

become and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ in

our time. Jesus Christ is at the center of all of our

lives.

Collection for weekend of June 20th & 21th

First Collection: $ 7,513.00

Archdiocesan Assessment: $ 5,990.00

“This is a dynamic which is at the heart of being Roman

Catholic. I am sure that other Christian churches will find a

similar tension at the heart of their lives too. To be Roman

is to be a particular community. We are heirs of a

particular tradition, or rather web of traditions. We have

inherited ways of talking and thinking, praying and

governing, living and dying. We are bound together as this

particular community by communion with the See of Rome.

But we are also Catholic, which means that we reach out to

universality, eager to be open to the unimaginable diversity

of human cultures and wisdom. This means that we are

always impatient with any identity which seems closed and

finished and defined. We are on the way to the Kingdom

and there will discover the secret of our identity hidden in

Christ. This tension between our identity as both known

and hidden appears in the First Letter of St. John.

‘Beloved, we are God’s children now; it does not yet appear

what we shall be, but we know that when he appears we

shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is’”.

† † † † † † † † † † † † †

A safe, restful summer to all.

In our Lord,

Msgr. Desmond
