DYNAMIC PARISH INITIATIVE
Dream Event
What are your dreams for your life? For your family? For our parishes? One of the most powerful and life-
changing gifts that God has given to each of us in the power to dream. We are able to look into the future and
imagine something better than today, and then return to the present and work to make that richly imagined
future a reality. We’d like to unleash that power of dreaming for the Reading Catholic Community. On
Tuesday, December 10th at 7:00 p.m., through our participation in Dynamic Parish, we will host our first-ever
Dream Event. This is a 90-minute interactive event that inspires us to embrace the gift of life and share our
dreams for our Catholic community. We personally invite each of you to come. Registration is free and we
expect a crowd, so please register now at www.Reading.Eventbrite.com, or scan here:

survey
Bigger Future Survey: Can You Help? We need to enter the paper
versions of the Bigger Future Surveys into the online database. If you have time,
we will be working in pairs to read and type the responses from the paper surveys
into the online database. Go to www.ReadingCatholic.org, or scan code to the
right to sign up.
Paper registration forms are also available at the church exits. We hope that
you will participate in the Dream Event. Beyond that, we hope the event then
inspires each of us to experience the joy of helping others realize some of
their personal dreams.
Help with the Dream Event
Would you like to help bring a great experience to the Reading Catholic Community? Sign up to help out at
the Dream Event, Tuesday, December 10th. Go to the Reading Catholic website, or scan here to get to the
Sign-Up Genius. Thanks!
Bigger Future Survey closes December 3rd. If you would like to take the
Bigger Future Survey, you have until Tuesday, December 3rd to complete the
online survey at www.BFS19.com, or to return your
paper survey to the Church or business office.
Paper surveys are available at the back of both churches.
Best Advent Ever
Many parishioners are familiar with Dynamic Catholic through their program, Best Advent Ever, a free email
program designed to help you slow down and focus on what matters most in the midst of the holiday bustle.
Throughout Advent, you’ll receive an email with videos that will encourage and inspire you to grow in your
faith. You’ll have a once-in-a-lifetime experience of Christmas, because you’ll have had a once-in-a-lifetime
experience of Advent. Sign up at www.BestAdventEver.com

Advent: the season of preparing for Jesus’ coming
into the world and into our lives.
The Nativity Prelude: Sunday,
December 15
Sunday, December 15
The 3rd Sunday of Advent - also known as Gaudete
Sunday - is a time of joyful expectation and eager
preparation in anticipation of the coming of the
Lord: indeed a reason to rejoice! The Nativity
Prelude serves as an introduction to this great
event. Let us rejoice in the nearness of Jesus’s
coming!
Please join us for the Nativity Prelude on Sunday,
December 15, at St. Athanasius Church, beginning
with the celebration of the 10:00AM Mass.
Hospitality in the St. Athanasius Parish Activity
Center will follow the Prelude.
Taizé During Advent

shopping to join with the Music ministers of our
community for three evenings of Taizé. The evening
consists of quiet, meditative scripture and song.

Christmas Gift Package for Loved One(s) in a War Zone
Sponsored by the St. Vincent de Paul Society
Again this year, the St Vincent de Paul Society is preparing Christmas gift packages to send to military
personnel in our parishes. Please let us remember those who selflessly serve others! We invite parishioners
to send in the address of loved one(s) who are presently in a War Zone, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society
will send them a Christmas gift package. An accurate and complete address is needed to ensure it reaches
your loved one. Questions? Call 781-258-8767, leave a message and a member will be in touch.
Time is short. We need addresses by December 8, 2019. Please email to:
Reflecting on Today’s Readings
The message is clear on this first Sunday of Advent:
“Walk in the light of the Lord”; “Stay awake…”; “You
must be prepared…”; “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ.”
The Church gives us this holy season as a time for us
to re-order our lives and our priorities. While our
culture will try to distract us from the importance of
Christ’s birth, take a few minutes each day in prayer
to extend a personal invitation to Jesus to come into
your life. Your prayer will produce gratitude and your
gratitude will foster hope in the Lord.
Page 5
First Sunday of Advent
Food for Family Thought
As birthdays and other gift-giving occasions arise,
think to include at least one gift that speaks of faith
to your child. It could be a book, a medal, or even as
simple as a bible verse bookmark. It will show that
you value your child’s spiritual nature.

Children’s Christmas Gift Program to Benefit Catholic Charities
December 1 through December 15, 2019
The Children’s Christmas Gift Program begins this weekend. This program benefits families and children
serviced by Catholic Charities North. Please consider donating a child’s gift or store gift card to benefit these
families and children. Choose a child’s age/gender from the Christmas Gift Program table at St. Agnes, for
whom you (and perhaps your child of similar age) can shop for a Christmas present. Return the UNWRAPPED
gift to the gift table on the following weekend. You may also decide to donate a store gift card (Target,
Walgreens, etc.) so that parents can personally shop for their child/ren. A final option is to donate a grocery
store gift card which is very helpful for families in having a joyous Christmas dinner. Catholic Charities will be
picking up donations on Tuesday morning, December 17.
Your kindness and generosity in donating gifts help families and their children experience a special Christmas
morning. Thank you!

St. Athanasius Christmas Giving
Program
Our annual Christmas giving program begins this
weekend. Please take a gift request from the bulletin
board at the church entrance. The gifts benefit
young families receiving services from Catholic
Charities who are struggling to provide the
necessities for themselves. The recipients are
participating in Catholic Charities’ education
program in an effort to build a self-supporting future
for their families. Unwrapped gifts should be left in
the church choir loft by December 15th. Gift cards
may be left in the box in the entryway near the
restroom. Donations of gift wrap are also
appreciated so the parents can wrap the gifts for
their children. Please contact Ellen Terry at
[email protected] or 781-944-5431 if you have
any questions. Thank you!
Supermarket Gift Cards to Benefit
The Reading Food Pantry and Catholic Charities
Please continue to support St. Athanasius Parish annual effort to assist the
hungry in our midst. As winter arrives many families must decide whether to
“heat or eat”. Please donate Market Basket or Stop and Shop gift cards in $5
to $20 denominations to assist families using the Reading Food Pantry and
Catholic Charities’ services. A collection box is in the church entryway near the restroom to accept donations
for the next few weeks. Thank you!
