The ESC of the Western Reserve will strive to support and meet all of your needs.

Wrap Around Credit with Lake Erie College

Lake Erie College Wrap Around Courses are “customized” courses around professional development activities conducted at the school district, school building, or individual level.

The foundations of many of the courses originate with professional work conducted during all-day PD experiences at the district-level and/ or the year-long work of professional learning communities.

Tuition: $140 per semester hour; 10% discount for Lake/Geauga districts

Minimum class time requirements: 15 seat hours for one semester; 30 hrs. for two semester hours; etc.

“Homework” required for credit: (1) a minimum of 3 pages of reflection on what was learned from the experience; (2) a time log documenting the number of hours put in completing the coursework; and (3) a product created for application in the classroom, building, and/or district.

What & Why: Engaging English Language Arts: Using Webb’s Depth of Knowledge to Improve Reading and

Writing in the Classroom: This session will focus on ways to encourage critical thinking using Webb’s Depth of

Knowledge (DOK) tools. DOK measures the degree to which knowledge is elicited from students. DOK is used to

describe the complexity of learning tasks and test items. Understanding how to develop critical thinking by asking

questions and developing assignments is critical to student growth and success on Ohio’s State Tests.

Understanding the Writing Rubric: This resource will help educators break down the components of the writing

rubric. Participants will develop an understanding of the differences between the points for each category, learn

how to score their students’ work using the rubrics and engage with examples of student papers available with the

practice and released tests.
