your staff with the professional development course of your selection.

Wrap Around Credit with Lake Erie College

Lake Erie College Wrap Around Courses are “customized” courses around professional development activities conducted at the school district, school building, or individual level.

The foundations of many of the courses originate with professional work conducted during all-day PD experiences at the district-level and/ or the year-long work of professional learning communities.

Tuition: $140 per semester hour; 10% discount for Lake/Geauga districts

Minimum class time requirements: 15 seat hours for one semester; 30 hrs. for two semester hours; etc.

“Homework” required for credit: (1) a minimum of 3 pages of reflection on what was learned from the experience; (2) a time log documenting the number of hours put in completing the coursework; and (3) a product created for application in the classroom, building, and/or district.

Data Driven Mastery in the Math Classroom

What: Learn the benefits of reaching each student where they are in constant understanding and moving them to the mastery level by taking the data you are already collecting to predict remediation, create cyclical assessments and leveled assignments.

GIFTED

Thinking Outside the Box: Giftedness and Creativity

Who: K-12 Teachers (year 2+ in the HQPD for Gifted sequence), GISs

What: Some children are identified as gifted in creative thinking. Meeting their needs as gifted learners poses unique challenges to classroom teachers. Learn about creative thinking identification, how creative thinking differs from other types of giftedness, and strategies classroom teachers can use to regularly support and nurture creative thinkers.

Strategies for Serving Gifted Children

Who: K-12 Teachers (less than 30 hours of HQPD in gifted child education)


What: This session focuses on the types of giftedness recognized in Ohio, the characteristics of gifted learners, and strategies we utilize in our classrooms tomorrow to support gifted learners.



Why: Learn the areas of giftedness recognized in Ohio, the traits of gifted learners, and differentiation strategies that can be used in classrooms to support gifted learners.

What: Neuroscience is providing more and more information about the structures and performance of those identified as gifted and more typical peers. This session explores these differences and then moves into a focus on social-emotional aspects of gifted, focusing on anxiety and depression.

What: The Ohio Teacher Evaluation System 2.0 Bridge Training will provide a better understanding

of the OTES 2.0 Framework and Model, allow practice of skills and allow for sharing of resources and

ELA Professional Learning

What & Why: Engaging English Language Arts: Using Webb’s Depth of Knowledge to Improve Reading and

Writing in the Classroom: This session will focus on ways to encourage critical thinking using Webb’s Depth of

Knowledge (DOK) tools. DOK measures the degree to which knowledge is elicited from students. DOK is used to

describe the complexity of learning tasks and test items. Understanding how to develop critical thinking by asking

questions and developing assignments is critical to student growth and success on Ohio’s State Tests.

Understanding the Writing Rubric: This resource will help educators break down the components of the writing

rubric. Participants will develop an understanding of the differences between the points for each category, learn

how to score their students’ work using the rubrics and engage with examples of student papers available with the

practice and released tests.
