What’s been happening?
We have had a few good club runs this month including the South beach Wanganui shiny trip, had 15 trucks attend this
finding a bit of mud to play in as well and Mr President managed to get his truck a wee bit stuck and very muddy...
Pureora forest turn out,, 16 Hard Yakka trucks! Two trucks down the second day and the temperatures overnight were
cold enough to freeze the cooling systems on some trucks… All our club flyers had been given out from Repco Fielding,
more to be given away… Had a really good turnout for the Turakina Give it a go day with plenty of enjoyment going
around!!!
For those who are doing trip reports or want anything put in the newsletter, send it on through to my email winch-
[email protected] By the 25th of each month please! See you out there in the mud;-)

The President’s Report - July 2018
Presidents Report July 18 Where does a month go, seems like days since I wrote the last blog. Welcome to all new members and prospective members. Hi again to all our 4wd enthusiasts. Mid-winter has come and gone but summer looks far away. Lots happening in the off road scene and plenty of trips happening for all levels from shiny to hard yakka.
By the time you read this a dozen or so trucks will have been on Paul’s hard yakka trip. The week before that we had a shiny trip along the dune tracks on Wanganui South Beach. South beach was a new play ground for our club and didn’t disappoint with a variety of driving conditions. This was a shiny tag along trip aimed at obviously shiny trucks and new drivers to the 4wd scene. Fifteen
trucks came for the day. From soft sand in the dunes, swamps full of mud and water and a little quick sand on the beach. All three of those conditions had some drivers needing recovery. Even though at the last minute we got denied access to the forest it didn’t make a difference to the day, I doubt we would have had time to do both. Definitely will be a track worth doing again, maybe in the reverse direction. So heaps happening in the club, we are still on for a trip on the last weekend of the month, either Saturday or Sunday depending on the trip leader. And we have our club competition starting soon. So don’t let me hear anyone say they have nothing to go to in their trucks. The trip for July is a 4wd gymkhana fun day. This is worth coming along to for no other reason than to laugh at your friends as we try to do the ridiculous. Nothing taking seriously. Although from previous gymkhana days I’ve seen some driver navigator relationships slightly strained, all good fun. My understanding is that there is very likely going to be a play day in the mud and sand on the first week-end of August and most likely by the time you see this a trip sheet will have made its way out. Not enough days in the week. The June club meeting at Willowpark was one of the biggest in attendance we have had for quite a while, it was great to see and motivates me to work harder to deliver the goods when it comes to trips. It was also the first time in years that we had our lucky draw again. Thanks to Ravensdown Fertiliser for supplying a few goodies to give away. Last year we had our first pub quiz and I’m more than happy to put something together for another one, maybe try to get a some prizes sorted out for the winners and losers. My experience with pub quizzes is that some people are way too smart and way too serious. I’ve come to learn that only two teams get a prize, the win-ners and the losers. There is only one prize that we have earned more than once and it’s not the first one ha-ha.
The rain continues to be a nuisance on the farm, I guess it’s too late to get a dry winter. The neighbours bull jumped the fence last September and in the one day that he came to visit he didn’t waste much time making friends, as a result we have new calves on the ground already. So much for a quiet peri-od over winter, the wet makes everything twice as difficult and hasn’t helped with trying to build up feed reserves going into spring. Mother na-ture has thrown everything at us over the past twelve months and we are still recovering. I look forward to seeing lots of you at the next meeting at the Willowpark on the third Wednesday of July.
Regards Philip (Mr President)

Heres some ”Diff-erent” news for the newsletter…
Someone suffered a bit of damage from Pureora Forest, a blown front diff... 1 of a few others that
had been destroyed by a certain Nissan in the past too… A few good mates and family mem-
bers thought this was no good and organised an early present for Nathan Thomsen’s 30th birth-
day . Inside this big wooden box in the photos below which had plenty of nails and screws hold-
ing it together Nathan was swinging at with a crowbar and pulling it apart with his bare hands just
like a kid opening any old present in wrapper he found a box inside with a picture of a diff on it, I
recall him saying something like.. “this box bloody better be what it says it is!” and sure enough
inside that he pulled out an E Locker diff lock!! Nathan is very thankful and completely over-
whelmed and blown away at the number of people that helped organise this present and show
up at his work on the night and help him put his new diff in. One very mighty happy chappy!
This is the diff centre from Nathan’s previously removed front diff
head

Wangas South Beach Sunday
So it had finally arrived ... the Trip to Wanganui South Beach, had been waiting for this one.
Another chance to get the Jeep muddy again, (not that I had cleaned it since the last trip) and this
time I was actually sorted with my own rear tow hook and everything.
Meeting point was at the parking area past the Wanganui airport somewhere, ended up going
past the speedway first but we were following Greg so it was his fault. Found everyone else al-
ready there so quickly set about airing tyres down.
About 15 trucks had turned up, including a few newbies (I'm not one anymore lol) which was
good to see, in a variety of trucks from a Suzuki Jimny, and a couple of utes, through to the usual
fat cruiser and Nissans.
We had been told by Mr President that the forest part of the trip was cancelled due to some grumpy forest dude saying we couldn't go in there because of logging, so all we had to play in was 14km of beach. That wouldn't take too long you'd think, but at lunch time we'd only made it about half way.
Trip leaders changed a couple of times so we zigged and zagged a bit, which was cool, still driv-ing then we came to a swampy muddy bit yeeha.
A few of the bigger trucks had gone through it by the time I got there so it was a bit cut up and slushy. And bugger it I got stuck and needed a very small light tiny pull to get out, wasn't really that stuck ...lol
In this area a big Nissan got stuck, like really stuck and needed a winch to get him out, and Greg got stuck doing silly stuff and needed a tow from Phil, which turned into a tug of war between the Pres and Vice Pres, boys are dicks .... moved to a clearing after the shananagans and stopped for lunch.
After lunch time to move on... This time Lee in front leading the way, after a secret squirrel detour which will not be talked about - what happens on tour stays on tour, back to tracks and stopping at Whangaehu River its head wa-ters originating from a crater lake of Mount Ruapehu (thanks Mr Google).
Time to start heading home the tide is starting to turn, those that wanted raced ahead we got quite stretched out along the beach, until we came across Grant Barnard stuck in some quick sand truly it was, stopped in his track unable to move but Kiddy Kruizer to the rescue and the Landrover was back on its way
As far as dramas go well that’s all we are able to publish lol and time was getting on so back to carpark from here to air up and go home another great trip Mr President thanks for doing some homework and putting on another great trip - bags not writing up next trip lol
