SPRING 2014 UCUES RESPONSE RATES FOR UPPER DIVISION STUDENTS If the unit received fewer than 5 responses, survey results not shown.

The general experience response rate is calculated as follows: the number of students responding to "How satisfied are you with the following aspects of your university education: My (CAMPUS) grade point average" divided by the number of unique students in that unit (major, department, division, college, campus). Questions included in the general experience include satisfaction with academic experience, social experience, and sense of belonging.

The major-specific experience response rate is calculated as follows: the number of students responding to "Please answer the following questions about [the major you specified you are evaluating]: The quality of lower division courses in your major" divided by the number of upper division declared majors in the given unit (major, department, division, college, campus).

EXAMPLE: A student is a double major, with both majors in Chemistry (Chemical Eng and Chemical Biology). Her response regarding her satisfaction with her GPA, a general experience question, is counted once in the College of Chemistry's total GPA satisfaction score. She evaluated both majors; her satisfaction with department advising in Chemical Eng and her satisfaction with department advising in Chemical Biology, major experience questions, are both counted in the College of Chemistry's total department advising satisfaction scores.

Respondents to UCUES answer a set of general questions, such as their sense of belonging and their skill level at entry/currently, and also major-specific questions, such as satisfaction with faculty advising. Students may have more than one major, and therefore may evaluate more than one major. If the student evaluates two majors, he/she submits two sets of responses to the major-specific questions. Therefore, the response rate is broken into two categories: the response rate for the general experience questions, and the response rate for the major-specific questions.
