NEW PERSPECTIVES THEATRE COMPANYIn Search of Pontiflunk
In Search of Pontiflunk is a unique journey to the heart of the English countryside, which began when writer Phil Smith stumbled upon a dusty copy of The Book of The English Oak while searching the archive of his locallibrary for information about acorns.
Published 100 years ago, Charles Hurst’s book is an extraordinary account of the journey he made on foot fromManchester deep into the East Midlands, planting hundreds of acorns as he went. It’s the story of an Edwardianman on a mission, the hundreds of characters he meets en route and how his fate was to become entwined withthat of Pontiflunk – his canine companion.
In Search of Pontiflunk will be a delightful, funny, thought-provoking evening of theatrical storytelling inspired byHurst’s eccentric genius and Phil’s own brand of offbeat observation rooting itself firmly in the rural areas of ourregion with reference to many villages. Top quality entertainment guaranteed from New Perspectives, the EastMidlands’ favourite rural touring theatre company.

SHIFTING SANDS THEATRE COMPANYThe Deadline
A postman delivers a parcel. Needing a signature, he knocks. The door opens. He ventures into the darkhouse. In the gloom he sees a knife. A knife buried in the back of a body slumped over a typewriter. Hesnatches the paper from the machine. He reads: “HELP - THEY ARE GOING TO…” Then from the cellarhe hears knocking. A desperate voice calls for help. Our innocent hero soon is lost in a twisting, maze-likeplot. When more dead bodies appear the postman becomes the prime suspect.
Shifting Sands presents a dynamic celebration of Film Noir, of thrillers and detective films, peopled bydouble-crossers, hard-boiled characters and women in peril, blackmailers and losers. Raymond Chandlermeets Laurel and Hardy in a shadowy world of menace and bad luck where nothing is ever what it seems.Three clowns will present a show that is by turns irreverent and moving, comic and heart breaking.
The Deadline is a visual feast of clowning and physical theatre in which members of the audience becomeour accomplices in finding the clues that will reveal a killer.

NEW PERSPECTIVES THEATRE COMPANYThe Farm, by Richard Benson, adapted by Daniel Buckroyd
The True Story of one family and the English Countryside
Farming hadn’t come naturally to Richard Benson, so after a childhood spent crashing tractors and being outwitted byvarious farmyard animals he’d fled to London to become a journalist. Then one morning the call came, the news thatafter two hundred years of farming in Yorkshire the Benson family were being forced to sell up, and he found himselfpropelled back into a forgotten world of runaway pigs, love among the haystacks and men who wrestled bulls to provea point.
The Farm tells the painful, funny, uplifting story of how big business is changing the face of the English countryside forever, and how one family in particular adapted to the challenges of a new life after being forced to give up their birthright.
Another wonderful evening with this popular regional company.

UMDUMO WESIZWE FROM ZIMBABWEIn concert – Nqingqo
Umdumo Wesizwe is the newest a cappellasensation to come out of Bulawayo(Zimbabwe's cultural melting pot) they perform‘imbube’ music and over the years havecreated their own style of 'imbube' christened'igusheshe'.
Umdumo Wesizwe are 8 young mensinging songs of love, hope, worship, courtship, hardship and African socialcommentary and will mesmerise you withtheir harmonies and tip-toe dance routines. This is vocal music that is laced with musicstyles of Afro Pop, Jazz, R&B and Reggae.
The music was born in the mines of SouthAfrica. Black workers were taken by rail to
work far away from their homes and theirfamilies. Poorly housed and paid worse, theywould entertain themselves after a six-dayweek by singing songs into the wee hoursevery Sunday morning. This began a fierce butsocial competition held regularly and was thehighlight of everyone's social calendar. Thewinners were awarded a goat for their effortsand, of course, the adoration of their fans.
Imbube has been made popular in the westby Ladysmith Black Mambazo,Zimbabwe's Black Umfolosi and theAustrian based trio Insingizi.
