“Yes, and…” is one of the most basic concepts in improv. The goal is to agree & build upon an idea. This is a great concept for you to use in the classroom! It promotes creative thinking, communication skills, & it is a great way to build classroom community. Shared Story Create a shared story. Each person has to continue the storyline based on someone else’s idea. This is a fast moving technique. Shared Sketch Create a class sketch of a concept. Each person draws on a Post-It note and adds it to a shared space. You must use “yes, and” to connect the idea to the person before. Brainstorm This is a great technique to use when helping someone who is stuck coming up with an idea. Everyone adds to the idea with “yes, and” allowing for different perspectives.
