Broccoli:

prices go up and less quantities due to cold

weather. The quality is very good.

Clementines:

This week we have Heard from exportes that

the markets has slowed considerably down,

but even with this and the inminent christmas

period we dont expect for the prices to go

down, at least not more than very few cents

per kg. Nontheless there is absolutely no

panic amongst growers and exporters for the

simple reason that in case the don’t get the

expected Christmas sales there are still very

few kgs available so it should be no problem

to have these sold in January.

Corn:

An excellent season has finished

Cucumbers:

When the weather conditions are perfect a

cucumber grows 5 cm and app 100 grams per

day. When its too hot the growing is speeded

up and when it gets cold it can almost paraly-

ze the growing and the latter is what has hap-

pened this week. From 0,22 € pr kg on auc-

tions Monday to 0,70€ Thursday is what pri-

ces has increased. This a tendency that seem

to be permanent for the coming months. Ex-

porters expect Janurary and Februrary to be

with very few cucumbers and very high pri-

ces....

Egg Plants:

With the cold comes the increase in prices

and problems with cold damages of the egg

plants. These cold damages are difficult to

avoid as it cannot be spotted in departure.

Figs:

Very very few kgs available

Iceberg:

The quality is perfect and prices are still too

low. However this situation is just about to

change within a week or so. We avised several

times that there would be a gap in the 2 most

busy weeks of the year week 51 and 52 and

now there is a press release from the growers

organisation apologizing that they will be in no

way able to meet the coming demand of ice-

berg lettuce

Kaki

:

There are still being loaded persimon from

Valencia, and in particular to germany, and this

means that many exporters haven’t changed to

Sharon yet, but from next week its expected

that 80% will be Sharon.

Lemon:

The growers are impossible to negotiate with.

They demand high prices knowing that the

demand will increase sooner or later. For now

the Turkish Lamas season has started and

when it ends in march there will be a serious

lack of lemons and only Spain will have lemons

when that time comes. For now the prices re-

main steady with strong tendency they will

increase. Large sizes are very limited and we

suggest you are out in good time to secure the

goods for Christmas, if you want Spanish le-

mons, to be sure of supply

Little gem:

Cheap and good quality

Oranges:

Generally the prices are lowering although

nothing espectacular, mainly because there is

50% less navelinas than normally. The quota-

tions for Salutiana remain high.

Peppers:

Panic amongst growers is a mild statement. For

at least 20 years Almeria hasn’t experienced so

many capsicums as what is coming in now. The

offer is far superior to demand and since season

began now once has cost of production for gro-

wers been reached with the low prices. There is

a serious fear that the sector will collaps on of

these days and that massive demonstrations

and strikes will hit Almeria they even talk aboput

declaring the sector in Bankruptcy. What the

growers has so many difficulties in understan-

ding is why they have to be paid so little when

prices in the retail outlets remain the same.

Another problem is the Ramiro. Until last year

only very few growers did this variety and they

obtained very good prices due to strong demand

and limited offer. Then with the good expecta-

tions much more growers planted and now the

offer suddenly exceed the demand and the di-

sappointment is enormous due to the very high

expectations.

Rasperries:

This coming week there will be some less availa-

bility as we have passed the peak of production.

Its expected that in two weeks the variety Glen

Lyon will peak in production as well.

Romane salad:

Rising demand. The quality is good and the pri-

ces are steady

Strawberries:

The prognosis remain the same as last week. In

approximately 15 days we should have volume

of the variety Splendor and the serious quanti-

tes of the early varieties will come the second

and third week of January. Its expected this year

that there will be a good offer of the early varie-

ties but the December weather can still change

a lot, as it did last year with the sudden frost.

Tomatoes:

Many tomatoes in the warehouses in Andalucia.

The prices are very low and the produce is of very

good quality. All sizes and varieties are available

and new exciting presentations such as 1 layered

60x40 are being marketed in the hope of increasing

the sales. All the special tomatoes are available as

well and with low prices. Rosa, Cherry, Plum che-

rry, Kumato, Topmato, kopmato, Kumato, Cherry

Kumato, San Marzano etc. Next week could be a

good week to plan promotion of biologic cherry

tomato and round tomato. Too many kg are co-

ming in and prices are more than negotiable.

Xanadu salad:

Super sweet and increasing demand week after

week

Zucchini:

Quantities are low, a 40% decline in harvest, be-

cause of low night temperatures this week. Prices

should go up. Very nice yellow zucchini and exci-

ting 10x500 flow with 2 or 3 piezes.
