All over Europe the weather has played an important in the fresh produce prices
this week. Snow in Scandinavia keeps the customer out of the shops and frost in
most part of Spain these days has turned a huge overproduction into only a small
overproduction. Most producers have been waiting for christmas, which is the most
important week of the year and expectations has been very high. Orders have even
been cancelled as the producers were afraid they could not commit to the quanti-
ties. However, it seems this year we will not experience Christmas sale, it seems it
has been cancelled even though, at least in Denmark, we are having the first white
Christmas since 95 and only the seventh in 100 years. From our office in Puzol we
can spot snow on the nearby mounts and temperatures fell 20 degrees from Sunday
to Wednesday this week. However today it was 12 degrees warmer than yesterday
so the polar conditions seemingly only came for a short visit.
This will be the last info of the decade so we wish all a merry christmas and a pros-
perous new year. We will be back in 2010 with more information about Spanish
fresh produce.

WEATNER PROGNOSIS FOR 18 .12 ,24 .12 AND THE 30 .12
Total Produce Sourcing Spain S.A Calle Caminás 3, Bajo Izquierda. 46530 Puçol (Valencia) T: +34 961 95 84 17 F: +34 961 95 84 40
Avocado:
Since avocado do nor ripe on the tree
and the market is loaded with cheap chi-
lean the growers has gone on early
Christmas vacation. At the same time its
raining most of the time in Malaga so
very few kgs available from Spain and
prices are rather steady.
Beetroot:
New crop from cadiz
Broccoli:
Very few quantities and we expect in-
crease in prices. They grow at very slow
speed due to cold weather.
Bunch carrots:
very nice crop from cadiz
Capsicum:
Huge supply of Ramiro, Capia and Paler-
mo. This plant is yielding very few fruits
so a grower need much higher prices
than a normal pepper but this year the
supply is much larger than demand and
prices are very low, up to 50% lower than
last year and now the first loads are co-
ming in from Morocco. The demand on
California peppers has gone from high to
nothing and its expected that prices
should fall, even though they have esta-
blished minimum prices.
Cauliflower:
Good quality from Murcia and norths-
pain. 6,8,10,12 pz with or without film.
Expensive
Celery:
Very veery nice green celery in sizes 14 to
18
Clementines:
Although the volumes being loaded for
export are much lesser than last year the-
re are basically no clementines left in the
warehouses and in the fields the words
from the growers are that the trees are
more or less out of fruits. This means that
we expect the season of clementines to
finish within the next 3 weeks and defini-
tely before the 20 of January. And with
that in mind we think prices are going up
from now and until clementines finished.
There are new good crops of Mandarins,
i.e clemenvillas of good quality and not too
difficult to peel.
Corn:
Still some corn but very few kgs available.
Courgettes:
Goes a little up due to the cold weather.
The quality is good and both yellow and
green are available.
Cucumbers:
Only very few cucumbers in Almeria and
Motril so prices rose last Monday with ex-
pectations of even higher prices but limi-
ted demand has only kept prices on the
level or even lowered them. However still
high compared to the disastrous season so
far seen from growers point of view.

Eggplant:
Some difficulties with the quality due to the
cold weather. As with cucumber the prices
rose with expectations of even higher prices
but from one day to another the demand
fell a lot a now we foresee much lower pri-
ces than initially this week where they were
very expensive.
Iceberg:
Good quality and very nice iceberg. Much
less crop than expected so logically prices
ought to go up but the demand is poor so it
seem that they actually can fall.
Kaki:
Considerable rise in demand, first and fore-
most on the important German market,
but we still think tit should be possible to
load well into February.
Kumquat:
Due to rain it has been impossible to pick
fruits so the new season has not yet begun
Lemon:
Now should be the most busy week of the
year but nothing happens. The expected
large Christmas and new year sales has not
showed and there seem to be a little panic
amongst producers. There are very very few
lemons on the trees, maybe even fewer
than 2 years ago when lemons were easily
sold at 20 € and not you cannot even sell at
half that price. Good quality of primofiori
Little gem:
8x2 or 14x2 little gem in standar or luxury
veersion. The quality and they close good
together with the cold weather
Oranges:
Very few kilos of navelina but absolutely no
problem in supply. The demand is diminutive
and prices rather low. For the coming varieties
there should be much more kilo available sin-
ce there are not the same waste in the fields
as experienced with navelina. The prices of
salustianas has gone down but maintain a de-
cent level due to the few kilo of navelinas on
the market.
Rasperry: The cold weather has affected the
volumes of raspberry. Fewer kilos available
and prices has gone up. Right now they are
doing inspections to determine if some crops
has been damaged due to the cold weather.
Romane salad:
12 pz. Very nice and good and increasing de-
mand
Strawberry:
Small volumes are being loaded for export this
week. The demand is weak with lots of fruits
of other origens and that puts pressure on the
prices and because of this most producers are
looking to sell their produce on the domestic
market. Even with cold weather the available
quantities are rising week by week.
Tomatoes:
Prices has gone up on all varieties due to fall
in production. The quality on special tomatoes
are excellent, however very few yellow cherry
due to the cold weather. They don’t mature.
