Spectral Imaging and Spectrometry

Galileo Avionica started the activity in the field of hyper-spectral spaceinstrumentation in the middle ’80s with the design and production of GOME-1,successfully flying on board of ERS-2 since 1995. For the time being, GalileoAvionica are carrying out the design of state-of-the-art optical instruments andhyper-spectral imagers devoted to both Earth and planetary / cometaryobservation; Galileo’s spectrometers are now flying on board of METOP,Cassini Rosetta and Venus Express missionsCassini, Rosetta and Venus Express missions.Leveraging on the capabilities acquired in the space field, Galileo Avionica hasdeveloped a demonstrator for airborne operations (SIMGA), which is nowpresented on the market, both for monitoring / security and militaryapplications. Demonstration flights have been performed with very attractiveresults. On the basis of all the background above, GA have started the developmentof an hyperspectral payload to be flown on a dedicated small mission, namelyPRISMA. This demonstration mission is considered as a precursor for a futuredual use mission to be agreed with National Defence authoritiesdual use mission to be agreed with National Defence authorities.

Gyro sensors

Roadmap of satellite gyro Gyro

SELEX GALILEO started the activity in the field of gyro sensors in the ’70s.

All units were based on the mechanical type 125 Gyro. The first productserie was named DIRA Mk1 and was delivered to ESA, Space SystemL l d Th l Al i S It l (f Al i S i )

DIRA Mk 1

Loral and Thales Alenia Space Italy (former Alenia Spazio).

The second product serie, DIRA Mk2, was delivered to NASA and toThales Alenia Space Italy (former Alenia Spazio) for COSMO/Skymed andRadarsat-2 programmes.

Over 60 DIRA Gyros delivered to scientific

DIRA Mk 2 SELEX Galileo started in 2005 the study of a new class of gyros, the SiREUS, making use of MEMS technology for the sensor. This new generation gyro serie will fit the needs of a wide community of commercial customers, delivered to scientific,

telecomms and Earth observation missions

Si MEMS Gyro

yincluding micro and mini sat suppliers.

SiREUS will be launched on Cryosat 2.
