Emma

Clarence

Backyard Litter

The owner of this litter could not care less about them and had just not gotten around to dumping them at the shelter when rescue found them. They were im-mediately taken to the vets and treated

for a skin condition and given shots and wormed. They have had a very hard start to life and now deserve wonderful homes from here on out. All these

pups are wonderful with excellent dispositions and will make wonderful pets.

Emma was a rescue from down south who was adopted from us about 2 months ago. One of the children she lived

with has allergies and so the family returned her to us. Emma is a sweet, beautiful and gentle pup. Now that she

has grown a bit she appears to have some Great Dane in her and will likely be on the bigger side. Emma is also

good with other dogs and cats. She is about 4 months old and up to date on her shots. This pup is going to be a real

gem if you like slightly bigger dogs.

This little guy was found as a stray and brought to the vets office before going to the shelter. The vet thought he was

such a good boy he called rescue to see if we could help him out. Clarence is now neutered, up to date on shots and ready

for his forever home.

around every toy in reach. In addition to being playful Maverick loves a good scratch which he usually asks

for with a silent meow and a thankful loud purr. A true charmer with his gentle and easy-going nature

Maverick will fit into almost any household. If Maverick had his preference he’d love

to be adopted with his little sister Midge who always provides him with a soft spot to sleep.

Maverick is comfortable around dogs and cats.He and Midge are spayed & neutered, up to date on all his shots and tested negative for both FIV and

Feline Leukemia.

Midge is a shy girl but once she decides your an ok human its all purrs, leg rubs and head-butts. Midge prefers to keep all four paws on the ground but enjoys

lap-time as long as its her idea. When she is not seeking out affection with a soft meow Midge is usually off on her own playing with toys — anything round and fuzzy

will do. Can’t find the cat toys? — Midge probably has them tucked away in her bed for safe keeping! If Midge got her wish she’d be adopted with her big brother

Maverick who looks out for her and always lets her have his leftovers. Midge is spayed and up to date on her shots, she gets along with both cats and dogs.

GREAT CAR CARE TIPS FOR

SENIORS(StatePoint) Car repair and maintenance can put a strain on both a senior’s budget and back. With some smart and simple preventive care, you can reduce automotive troubles down the line.

Tread and Tire Pressure

The last thing any senior needs is a blown out tire while driving. Avoid this dan-gerous scenario by check-ing the tread on your tires and the air pressure once a month. Tires with little or no tread and that are show-ing threads are unsafe and should be replaced immedi-ately.  For the recommended air pressure for your tires, do not go by the numbers on the sidewall of the tires. Instead, refer to the owner’s manual or sticker on the driver’s side door. Not only does proper air pressure decrease the likelihood of a blow-out, but it increases your car’s gas mileage, and gives your vehicle better traction.

Change the Oil

The truth is that oil changes take time and money. However, if this task is not done rou-tinely, then the overall health of your engine can be jeopardized.

When using conventional oil, it’s recom-mended to change the oil every 3,000 miles. However you can save yourself some work and better protect your investment by us-ing high-quality synthetic motor oil instead. For example, Royal Purple HMX is specifi cally designed to minimize wear and tear and

restore performance in engines with more than 75,000 miles. Instead of the typical oil change once every 3,000 miles, synthetic oil can reduce the frequency to once every 10,000 to 15,000 miles, or once every 12 months, depending on how much your ve-hicle is used.

Check Lights

Don’t be the one left in the dark. Regularly check your headlights, taillights, turning sig-nals and brake lights. Thousands of accidents a year are the direct result of failed lights. Check your lights by asking a trusted neigh-bor, friend or family member to walk around your car as you turn the headlights, taillights and turning signals off and on. Also, apply light pressure to the brake to make sure your brake lights are working as well. If a light is out, check the fuses. An easy do-it-yourself replacement can save you time and money.

GET A GRIP -- TIPS FOR SAFER DRIVING ON WET ROADS (NewsUSA) - It’s that time of the year again -- time for wetter roads and, unfortunately, more accidents.

Russell Shepherd, a mechanical engineer for Michelin North America and self-proclaimed “tire nerd,” has certainly earned his informal title as evident by his 15 years of driving in al-most every type of weather condition imaginable. Most con-cerning for him -- wet weather.

“Most people don’t realize how much wet roads aff ect their driving,” says Shepherd.

“When roads become wet, it takes longer to stop and more time to react, making it more important

than normal to pay attention to your car and other drivers.”

So, what can the average driver do? Shepard suggests get-ting to the bottom of things fi rst -- with the tires. Here are some tips:

* Check all tires regularly for tread wear and pressure. Chang-es in season and temperatures make it a good time to check both.

* Be cautious from the start. As soon as it starts raining, trac-tion can become negatively aff ected. It only takes a small amount of water to mix with oil and dust to create a slick surface.

* Find the right tire. A tire with a grip designed to handle wet roads, such as the new Michelin Premier A/S tire, can make a big diff erence. This tire has a unique rubber compound engi-neered to maximize traction, and two sets of grooves to help channel water away from the tires to maintain that traction. The second set of grooves is hidden when the tire is new, but emerges as the tire wears.

This distinctive design feature maintains the tire’s ability to funnel water away, even when worn, which prolongs the life of the tire and enhances driver safety.

* Get in touch with your car. Take time to learn how your car responds on wet roads. Is the steering looser than normal? Are you sliding when you brake? Do you notice the ABS (An-ti-lock Braking System) kicking in? If so, your tires could be losing their grip. Slow down and get your tires checked as soon as possible.

AUTOMOTIVEHOW TO CUT

YOUR COMMUTING

COSTS A daily commute can be physically stressful, but many people fi nd their daily trek to work fi nan-cially taxing as well. Com-muting costs have risen considerably over the last decade-plus, as higher fuel costs have eaten into many household budgets. But commuters accus-tomed to grinning and bearing it with regard to their daily grind might be surprised to learn that there are some ways they can cut their commuting costs and possibly even reduce some of the physical stress stem-ming from their daily odys-seys to and from the offi ce. The following are a handful of ways to trim the costs of your daily commute.* Establish a ridesharing program at your offi ce. Research from the Center for Transportation at the Washington Policy Center in Seattle has shown that carpooling to work can be as much as 61 percent cheaper than driving alone. Many highways feature commuter lanes that are exclusive to vehicles with two or more passengers. Veteran commuters know that such lanes tend to be the least congested lanes on the highway, so taking advantage of the commuter lane by sharing rides with one or more coworkers can save time as well as money. The ben-efi ts of ridesharing are numerous, and include saving money on fuel (sharing driving duties with just a single coworker im-mediately cuts your commuter fuel costs in half ); extends the life of your vehicle by reducing daily wear and tear; and also allows you one or two days a week to unwind during your commute while someone else takes the wheel. * Ride a bike. Admittedly, men and women who aren’t en-tirely healthy or those who live especially far away from the offi ce or in regions where the weather is often unpleasant may not be able to turn their bicycles into tools for cutting the costs associated with their commutes. But riding a bi-cycle to the offi ce each day will cut your commute-related fuel costs by 100 percent while also providing a boost to your cardiovascular system. Regular cardiovascular exercise has been shown to reduce risk a person’s for various conditions, including heart disease, while also reducing stress. Even rid-ing a bike to the offi ce twice a week can cut your commute-related fuel costs by 40 percent, so if cycling to work is a real-istic possibility for you, give it a try.* Propose the idea of telecommuting to your employer. Many employers have grown more lax with regard to employees

working from home. Some employers recognize that less strict telecommuting policies make for happier and more loyal employees, who can drastically reduce their childcare costs in addition to commuting costs by working from home. In addition, employers can benefi t by moving into smaller of-fi ces with more aff ordable rents. Telecommuting one or two days a week can save you a substantial amount of money, so propose the idea to your employer, even suggesting a trial period to see if it’s a viable option before either side makes a full commitment.* Change your hours. Technology has made it easier than ever before for companies to abandon the typical 9-to-5 workday. Employees can now connect to company networks via external server connections at any time of day and even contact one another via email applications on their smart-phones regardless of the time of day. Flex time, in which employees are allowed to work fl exible schedules so long as their work is getting done, enables employees to commute to and from the offi ce during off -peak hours when roads are less congested than they are during rush hour. This saves you the time you spend sitting in rush hour traffi c while also cut-ting back on fuel consumption that only increases the more your car sits idling in traffi c.
