Five Leadership Lessons From James T. Kirk
y Alex Knappwww.forbes.com
Captain James T. Kirk is one
f the most famous Captains
n the history of Starfleet.
Theres a good reason forhat. He saved the planet
Earth several times, stopped
he Doomsday Machine,
helped negotiate peace with
the Klingon Empire, kept the
balance of power between the
Federation and the Romulan
Empire, and even managed to
fight Nazis. On his five-yearmission commanding the
U.S.S. Enterprise, as well as
subsequent commands,
James T. Kirk was a quintes-
sential leader, who led his
crew into the unknown and
continued to succeed time
and time again.

ed Oak Fly In & Breakfast 2012
s already April which means
at we are roughly a month out
om the annual Red Oak Fly In &
eakfast, are you ready?
his year we will again be holding
full day of flight line training on
Saturday May 5th at the airport
followed by an overnight at the
armory and the fly in on Sunday
morning (May 6th).
We need to start getting our
ducks lined up so if you plan on
being there and would like to help
out (we need people for flight
line, crowd control, the paper
airplane contest and our CAP
recruiting table) please let Capt
Jessa Erickson know!
n Saturday March 3rd, 3 of our newest cadets got
e chance to do a little flying. A HUGE thank you to
Maj Joe Murphy and 2d Lt Dick Dimon for taking time
out of their weekend to get these kids up in the air!
ark Your Calendars!
e summer months always
ove to be a busy time, and this
ar will by no means be any
ception.
e sure to check out our calendar
equently as new events are
added and be sure to let us know
if you want to participate in any of
the events the squadron and
wing are offering. If youre look-
ing for an encampment or acade-

need.
o You Like to Volunteer?
you answered yes, then you
ould know that CAP has a
ommunity Service Ribbon it
wards to both cadets and senior
embers who volunteer a mini-
um of 60 hours. Volunteer
ours can be counted in various
ays and it doesnt have to all
come from the same project.
Do you pick up trash along the
highway, clip coupons for service
men and women or assist in a
nursing home? If you volunteer
and arent sure if what you do
counts be sure to ask.
Ribbons are awarded after 60
hours of community service. For
each additional 60 hours com-
pleted you will receive a clasp to
go on your ribbon.
Currently only 3 members have
this ribbon, will you be next?
