Inspiring Excellence through PRIDE Principal: Mr Peter Hickey Vere Street South Grafton NSW 2460 T: 02 6642 3388 F:02 6643 2065 [email protected] On Monday our school Captains, Vice Captains, Mrs McIntyre and Mrs Heyman attended the annual National Young Leader Conference which was held in Brisbane. Our leaders had the opportunity to meet some of the guest speakers who included: John Coutis, Erin Molan, Jade Slater, Bianca Chatfield, Jackie French and Solli Raphael. Our leaders were very impressed with Erin Molan and Erin also commented on how professional our school uniform with our blazers looked. On Sunday our leaders also enjoyed a visit to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary while travelling to Brisbane. Congratulations to our four wonderful leaders who showed outstanding leadership qualities representing our school. Thank you to Mrs Heyman and Mrs McIntyre for their support of this wonderful excursion. Thank you to all our families for your support of this weeks school photos which were a great success. Once again our students looked fantastic in our outstanding school uniform. Our thanks to Mr Zacek and Mr Jones for organising our photos. Please contact MSP on 02 6583 1968 if you have any concerns. Good luck to our swimmers who are competing today in the Mid North Coast Carnival being held at Coffs Harbour: Kai McGregor, Jack Meyer, Joseph Menzies, Izaac Bailey, Emmie Lolic, Anna Clancy, Leah Hastings, Stella Lauchlan, Archie Ricketts, Mitchell Green, Riley Lolic, Aidan Menzies, Zoe Rayward, Mylie Wall, Azari Higgins, Annabel Dungey, Tyson Cameron, Wayne-Chase Whitney, Isaiah Rowe and Chloe Ryan. Mr Newman will be accompanying these students at this carnival. Last Friday Mr Hogan visited the Primary Campus to view our two new Promethean Boards which we were able to purchase through funding from our successful Local Community Grant application. Thank you Mr Hogan for your support of our application and continued support of our school. Thank you to all our parents who attended our P&C AGM on Tuesday night. We had a fantastic attendance and congratulations to the following community members who have successfully been nominated for the following positions: President: Mrs Kelly Vickers, Vice President: Mrs Christine Eggleton, Secretary: Mrs Rae-Anne Finlay, Treasurer: Mrs Amanda Brown, Assistant Treasurer: Mr Tim White. Our P&C plays a very important role in our school and we are looking forward to another fabulous year of working together to support our staff and students. Our P&C will be organising their first fundraiser for the year which will be our Easter raffle which will be drawn at the Easter Hat Parade on Wednesday 8th April. Tickets will be sent home shortly. Thank you for your support of our P&C and this raffle. Tomorrow we have 35 Principals from the Grafton and Ballina area and Mrs Meghanne Wellard and Mr John Baker who are Director Educational Leadership for these two areas attending our school for a Professional Learning day which is being held in our Library. This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our high quality Library and our outstanding resources. Our Year 4 Dance Group from last year and our Academy Choir are performing. Our OC class will also be demonstrating to the Principals on how we utilise our Green Screen, Promethean board, Edison robots, classroomscreen.com and 3D printer. My thanks to Mrs Heyman, Miss Emily Ryan, Mrs Thompson, Miss Amanda and Mr Tapp for their support. A reminder students who are participating in our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser that the final date and our school ‘Jump Off’ is being held on Friday 6th March. Only students who have fundraised will be participating in the ‘Jump Off’.

Next Tuesday our Year 6 students will receive their PRIDE Leadership badges at our PRIDE Induction Assembly which is being held in our Primary Hall at 11.30am. Congratulations to all these students and their parents on this excellent achievement and our Year 6 teachers and Mr Zacek for their leadership supporting our students. Parents are invited to attend.

Last week our Stage 2 students enjoyed participating in our initial Aboriginal Language Program which is supported by and funded from the state AECG. We have been allocated an Aboriginal language educator, Dean for the Gumbaynggirr language.

Next Wednesday students who are participating in our debating team this year are attending the North Coast Debating workshop which is being held at Sawtell Public School. The workshop is organised by NSW DEC Arts Unit to support students who are involved in the Premier’s Debating Challenge. I will be attending with Ms Page and Mrs Rayward. We have entered two teams into the Debating Challenge this year.

Last week members of our executive team attended high quality professional learning held in Sydney. Every teacher at our school has a professional development plan to assist their individual growth which is aligned to our school management plan. Mrs Rouse, Mrs Walters, Mrs McGrath, Mrs Knight and Ms Small attended the Sydney Morning Herald Schools Summit. Their was a number of high quality speakers who facilitated an insightful debate and discussion around the future of Australian education.

P&C News - Craft Group

The Craft Group is held every Wednesday morning from 9.00am at the Infant Campus. They are busy making items for the Mother’s Day stall. If you are able to help making gifts please contact Kelly Vickers on 0419 162 075.The craft group are asking for donations of small glass jars and white mugs which can be left at the Infants office. Thank you for your support!

All students and parents are invited to attend a Year 6 into 7 Transition Information Night on Tuesday 10th March from 5.30-7.00pm at South Grafton High School Hall. The aim of the evening is to provide students and their parents with an opportunity to learn about the transition process and develop an understanding about their child’s high school experience.It is an opportunity to meet the principal and Year Adviser as well as gain information about the curriculum, special school programs and extra-curricular activities, which are available to your student. Student scholarships and Platinum class selection will be explained. Important details surrounding the culture of the school including welfare, support, achievements and other opportunities will be discussed. There will also be an opportunity to take a tour of the school and view our facilities.
