W elcome to the 2014 South East Zone Show Season! We look forward to another successful year and continue to build what has become a strong, encouraging community for riders to develop their skills in. Last year was a wonderful

show season with an increase in members and show entries. This year’s prize list and schedule has been improved to better serve our members. We have changed some of our pricing and added more training level classes. We also have a more efficient schedule this season with all bronze classes on one day and all silver hunter classes on another. We will once again, look forward to hosting our second annual Hunter Derby, which was a great success last year. The South East Zone strives to continue to provide a supportive, friendly and competitive show environment for all members. I encourage you to take some time and look through our prize list, the full version can be found on our website at www.southeasttrilliumzone.com. You will see clas-ses for every level of horse and rider as well as a full list of sponsors that have committed to helping us make our shows a success. Happy horse showing! Meet the Judges

Laura Keland-May is passionate

about giving people the necessary tools to reach their maximum poten-tial with their horse. She likes to say, "I help people build powerful rela-tionships with their horses. I help people get results from their horse, and identify simple step-by-step so-lutions so equestrians can reach their potential. When you have a relationship with your horse, your horse will perform better for you". Laura brings her expertise from her 25+ years as a Senior Equine Canada Judge, Coach 2 (Hunter/Jumper), author ( 20+ Exercises to Improve Your Riding Position) and Recorded Steward to assist her clients and stu-dents.

Heidi Meuller has been a ‘r’ Sta-

tus Hunter/Jumper/Hack/Equitation judge since 2003 and a EC Level 2 coach since 2004. She currently owns Rushmount Equine Sports Ltd. with Mikael McCahon and is training with Beth Underhill. Heidi has also competed as a Professional Arm Wrestler with Team Canada since 1998.

Grits McMullen has been a Sen-

ior Judge for the last 31 years and has judged in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario and right

down through Georgia, U.S.A. She owns Sunset Farms in Stittsville, On-tario with her husband, Tim McMul-len, has her International Passport for Coaching and has trained many young riders and horses in the past 35 years. Grits has been affiliated with the Ottawa Valley Hunt since 1973 and is currently a Joint Mas-ter. She continues to breed and pro-duce quality Sport Horses for the show ring, event world, hunt field and pleasure.

Susan Evans has been around

horses/ponies since she was 8 years old and says “the love never goes away. I started competing when I was around 10 or so, just in local events around our area. I started judging schooling shows in 2002 and worked very hard with numerous judges to achieve my ‘r’ status to judge the Silver and Bronze shows. I enjoy judging and stewarding very much and especially enjoy watching the development and progress of the younger children staring in the short stirrup division and working their way up to the junior/children’s divi-sions. I have a wonderful horse that I show myself and hope to keep show-ing as long as I can. I find horses and all that goes with them is very re-warding.”

Meet the Judges

Cathy Aker has been a recorded

judge since 2002. She upgraded to her Senior status in 2010. In addition to judging Trillium shows throughout the province, she has judged in Man-itoba, Nova Scotia and Bermuda.

Gay-Ellen Dennis was raised in

Ontario on a dairy farm, along with sheep, draft horses and a few riding horses. A love for ponies and jump-ing led her to a lifetime of riding show hunters. She was very success-ful in equitation and hunters, quali-fying and competing successfully at the Royal Winter Fair.

Gay-Ellen holds Senior Judging cards in hunters, hack, equitation and jumpers. She has judged in Bermuda and across Canada. She currently lives on the Bruce Peninsula on the shores of Georgian Bay.

Judy Masson has been judging for

over 10 years at the Trillium level and has judged in all of the zones at one time or another. She is a horse owner of wonderful OTTB'S and runs a retirement farm. Both of her daughters are still showing in their adult lives.

Jody Thomlinson has been an

active hunter jumper competitor for over 30 years. She has competed at the RAWF National Finals in the both Ad Amateur and Am Owner divi-sions. Judging hunters is something she truly enjoys and has been doing since 2009.

Susan Legge is a Senior Equine

Canada Judge and Senior National Steward. She has been working across Canada as an E.C. Official for over ten years. Susan shows her own horses as an amateur in the hunter and jumper divisions, primar-ily on the National Circuit.

Year End Banquet

A t the end of the show season the South East Trillium Zone holds an end of year awards banquet.

Beautiful ribbons, prizes and trophies are awarded to all Bronze and Silver division champions, reserve champions with ribbons to

sixth place. This year the prizes included embroidered coolers, saddle pads and leather halters with engraved plates. The trophies are engraved with each years winner and the rider gets to keep them for a year before hand-ing them on to the next years winner.

It’s a wonderful opportunity for all the riders and their families to gather and celebrate in the after glow of the season. The event last year was held at a local Kingston restaurant and included a meal, cash bar and dancing. It was a very successful evening over with 220 people in attendance!

More information regarding the 2014 Banquet will be available from the fantastic organizing committee mid way through the season.

A Special thanks goes to all the zone volunteers, the executive committee and especially the banquet committee who put hours of work into organiz-ing this special event. Thanks to Briana Dumbleton, Danielle Kimmett, Jen Coles, and Kelsey Smithyman for volunteering to organize this years ban-quet.

We look forward to seeing you there!
