• Broadcasting is supervised by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA).
• This was set up in 1994, so media would be free from political control.
• South Africa Broadcasting Corporations controls three domestic channels.
• The country’s first broadcast nationwide was in 1976. At this time the government resisted the introduction of TV. They feared it would decrease the state’s control over press and radio.
