HELP US TRANSFORM WEST MAIN INTO A HOLY LAND ADVENTURE THIS SUMMER!

This summer during VBS, we’ll join Moses and the Israelites as they escape Egypt and journey through the wilderness. We need your help transforming our building into a realistic Bible-times adventure for kids. We’re looking for: baskets, artificial greenery (trees, plants, etc.), pottery/terra cotta pots, fabric for “tents” or costumes (those green & gold sheets from the 70’s would be perfect!) small area rugs, pop up “tailgate” tents etc. Use your imagination - the possibilities are endless!

If you have items to donate (that we can keep,) bring them to the church anytime. If you have items that we can borrow in June, please let Jennifer or Ashley know so that we can include your items

in our decorating plan. Thanks for your help!

1st - 6th graders who’ve been coming to choir on Wednesday nights will sing in worship this Sunday.

Please meet in the Sanctuary at 9:30 A.M. to practice.

In his classic work, The Brothers Karamazov, Fydor Dostoevsky wrote, “The more I love humanity in general the less I love man in particular. In my dreams, I often make plans for the service of humanity, and perhaps I might actually face crucifixion if it were suddenly necessary. Yet I am incapable

of living in the same room with anyone for two days together.”

If you’ve been married, had a roommate, or gone on a weekend youth retreat, you know exactly what Dostoevsky means!

It’s easy to have warm fuzzy feelings for someone when you don’t have to use the same bathroom or decide which one of you will wash the dishes.

When you share everyday life with someone you are forced to confront those parts of someone else’s life that you perceive as messy and broken but also the messiness and brokenness that they see in you.

True love must pass this threshold of vulnerability and the inevitable conflict and disillusionment it brings. True love is only sustained through the hard everyday work it takes to accept and appreciate others just as they are.

In worship this Sunday we will reflect on what is often called “the love chapter,” I Corinthians 13.

I pray that our love for God and one another will grow until it learns to bear all things, believe all things, hope all things, and endure all things. I pray that we will continue to hold onto to each other until we find the love of Jesus in the brokenness and messiness of this household of God we call West Main Baptist Church.

Happy Valentines Day!

Drew
