Soil Moisture Stations
26 march 2007 L. Krauß
► additional stations (for COPS):
at supersite R, H, M (FZ Karlsruhe) at supersite S (Univ. Bonn) at supersite V (French station) in the Rhinevalley at Linkenheim (FZ Karlsruhe)
Soil Moisture Network
FZ Karlsruhe University of Bayreuth University of Freiburg
40 stations each with 3 sensors
4 stations 2 stations
the sensors probably will work from the first
of may and will runat least for 1 year
Installation Details
Soil moisture sensors:
SISOMOP (Simplified Soil Moisture Probe)
5 cm
20 cm
50 cm
Installation depths
26 march 2007 L. Krauß
3 sensors at each station
Special Observation Sites/ Measurements
Optional: detailed 2D-variability of soil moisture with geophysical instruments (Geoelectrics/ Ground penetrating radar)
3 planned Special Observation Sites (spatial soil moisture variability)
– Linkenheim (Rhine valley, close to IMK-FZK)– Hornisgrinde (supersite H)– AMF site (supersite M)
Rings et al. submitted
Electrical Resistivity Tomography
26 march 2007 L. Krauß
► location of all soil moisture stations (run by FZ Karlsruhe) are near existing precipitation stations (DWD, LUBW)
► integration of all soil moisture measurements during COPS into one network coordinated by Karlsruhe with French contributions
► there is at least 1 soil moisture measurement on each supersite
► Data will be send to the Archive in Hamburg every 4 weeks
Open Questions:
- temporal resolution
depends on the storage capability of the data loggers
will be less than 1 hour (presumably 30 minutes)
- temporal resolution of detailed 2D-sections is not clear yet
