PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORKS A passive optical network is a broadcast physical topology in which all ONU receive the full signal (the superposition of the lengths of the channels of information). The separation between the signals that are directed at each of the subscribers is carried out in the ONU. Passive Optical Network DesignIn general, power levels in the network are affected by the loss of the optical couplers and the attenuation of signals over optical fiber links. There arises the need for optical amplification.
