Hello fellow dental hygienists!! I cannot believe that a new year has passed already and we are at that time of year once again. I am excited to begin a new year with the San Antonio District Dental Hygienists’ Society. I am honored and excited to serve you as President once again and hope to see you all at our monthly meetings. I was able to attend the 3rd annual “Sweating with Strong” wom-an’s clinic once again in July. It was a day filled with entertainment, food and interacting with the players and coach-es at DKR Memorial Stadium. We also participated in some of the football drills that the players do. It makes you appreciate what the players do every day to become a better and stronger team. Although it was a hot and sweaty day, it was a lot of fun. I am so excited about the upcoming football season. Again, this looks to be a great year for our component. We have a great list of speakers lined up for the upcoming CE’s during our monthly meetings. Due to feedback from the survey sent out this spring, we will be trying new things this year. Our meet-ings will still take place at Matamoros Restaurant Y Cantina on De Zavala road, but we will be cutting the meet-ings short and starting the CEs earlier.
We understand that eve-ryone has busy and tiring days so this will give eve-ryone the opportunity to get home a little earlier during the weeknight. We will also be having a 2 hour Saturday CE in Oc-tober. This will be to make up for not having a CE in the months of October and May. This will be at a dif-ferent location and seating is very limited so we will only do attendance by registra-tion and there will be no on-site registra-tion. Attendance will be FREE for mem-bers and $45 to non-members. Thanks to Crest Oral-B, we will have a Friday CE in September. They will be bringing Lisa Harper-Malloonee BSDH, MPH, RD, LD to present “Yoganomics for Dental Professionals”. This will be a 4 hour CE and again it will be limited to a small number. Information for this course is within the newsletter, so make sure to continue reading I don’t know how much to thank Crest Oral-B, they have done so much for us and bringing us this oppor-tunity, I am so grateful. News from ADHA: In 2014 the Board of Trustees (BOT), based on House of Delegate input, developed “guiding prin-ciples” for the charter agreements. The goal was to ensure that ADHA and its con-stituents and components were organized to meet the needs of future members in transforming the profession of dental hy-
giene. The ADHA Charter Agree-ments were developed in collabo-ration with outside legal counsel with expertise in non-profit organi-zations. These agreements en-sure that all entities of ADHA are legally compliant, create continuity
and quality of member experience, and unify our collective brand across the country. ADHA un-derstands the critical role that our constituents and components play in our core ideology to “lead the transformation of the
dental hygiene profession to improve the public’s oral and overall health.” These agreements will foster our ongoing rela-tionship of collaboration as we transform the profession. So there will be changes coming up in the upcoming years to comply with these developments. We will once again have many volunteer opportunities again and I would like to encourage all to attend. Please make sure to mark your calendars and feel free to invite friends, membership is not necessary to participate. We are always looking for friendly smiling faces and I am looking forward to meeting new peo-ple as the year goes on. Lastly, I would like to extend an invitation to be more active in our socie-ty. All are welcome to join a committee or can attend a board meeting to see what happens behind the scenes, please feel free to contact me. I want to bring in new enthusiastic people to help give input on our plans. I am looking forward to serving you and Hook’Em Horns! Sarah J. Roddy RDH SADDHS President [email protected]
