Deciding Where To Focus Efforts:Listen First

- Understanding your audience is crucial to effective marketing!

- Get involved in the conversation & listen to what people are saying about your organization or your organization's focus.

- Don't just join a social network because you want to, join it because your audience is there!

DO YOUR HOMEWORK!

- Research trends that are happening in your community, or other organizations similar to you! - Reach out to fellow non-profits and find out what they're doing, and how you can be involved, too!

- Ask your existing audience, clients, sponsors, & supporters what they like, don't like or want more of from your organization!  **** Give them an incentive -- if you can offer them a ticket to the next big event, etc. Do it!

 • Scroll down left side of page.

 • Click "See All" under Insights Box.

Don't just glance at this data! Take a closer look & APPLY!

What's Your Demographic?    Who's interacting on your page? Males?     Females? Both? How old are they?    These questions will help you understand how to    address your fans/likers. Understanding your demographic     helps you decide what content to share & how much    impact those posts will have.     Who's "Liking" Your Page?    The demographic of your fans may be different     than those who actually interact.This will help you deliver relevant info from your organization.

• What is Post Quality?o This measures how engaging your posts are during a set period

of time. Based on the amount of fans you have, amount of clicks you generate, page views, the amount of 'media consumption' that takes generates on your page, and the amount of likes per post or update.

• What is Media Consumption?o When you post a video, audio clip, or photo album on your page

Facebook monitors how many times people click, view and share this content on Facebook.

• Engage Your Followers:o Use several different forms of media to engage your fans/likers.

Anytime you create a video/radio commercial share it on your page!

When Should You Tweet?

Social Media Guide Says: • 11:00am (CST)• This is the prime time to have

your content seen on Twitter. This is the time that West Coast is arriving to work, East Coast heading to lunch, & UK is getting off work.

• Best time to be Re-Tweeted is Friday at 3:00pm (CST)

• Least likely time to be seen is 7-9am any day. Sunday is the least active day on Twitter.

What Should You Tweet?

• History of Organization.• Tweet about news, events or

awards pertaining to your organization.

• Don't talk about yourself all the time. Re-Tweet other active tweeters info that is relative to your organization.

• Keep Everyone In The Loop: share details about your activities in the community & involvement with other non-profits!

    Simple. Relative.    Engaging. Credible.Solutions. Tips. News.

• Use action words like: 'New' 'How To...' 'Best' 'Why You Should...' & 'Most'

• Keep it simple! You want your content shared on Twitter, keep tweets short, but spunky!

More Twitter Tips • Watch for Trends!o Google Trends: Find

current events that associate with your organization or cause!

• Cross promote content: Use traditional media on Social Media (news articles, radio interviews, TV Commercials)

• Tweet as much as you can, research shows those who tweet 20-25 times/day gain more followers at a faster rate. (This only applies to Twitter)

On ANY Social Media Outlet, DO NOT just push content from your website.

Think of Social Media as a conversation: listen, respond when spoken to, and share interesting details.

If there is someone you want to talk to online, then introduce yourself!

Get People Excited: Board Members, Supporters & Sponsors

Get your everyday supporters involved in spreading the word about your organization online!

• E-Mail Blast: o By sending out an e-mail to everyone involved in your

organization you will increase your followers/likers quickly while informing everyone of your new efforts to reach out in the online world.

• Suggest To Friends:o Encourage those who support or serve with your

organization to suggest your Facebook page to their friends & encourage them to follow your organization on Twitter.

Tips For Your Organization:How To Get People Excited    -Board Members: • Give them the goals & update them on the success of the

campaign. Include them in the process by doing Board Bios or recognizing their achievements through out the month.

    -Community Members & Supporters:  • Be Enthusiastic about the Organization when sharing news or info.

Encourage their participation by asking questions that will benefit your organization, & create a friendly atmosphere on the social media platforms -- everyone wants to be involved in an engaging organization that is a positive influence on their world, and community!

    -Sponsors/Benefactors:• Spotlight Your Sponsors/Benefactors by sharing links & info about

them on your social platforms & publicly thank them & promote them! Encourage your supporters to support them as well.
