INAGURATION OF AMBEDKAR CELL

INTRODUCTION:

Babasaheb Dr B R Ambedkar studies and research centre was established during 1998 with

funding from the government of Karnataka. The centre is the first of its kind in a university to

construct a memorial architectures type building in Karnataka state by investing about Rs 80

lakhs .

Aims and objectives:

1. To propagate the ideas and ideals of Bharatharathna dr. Babasaheb

Ambedkar ob society, economy and polity

2. To focus attention on the contribution of Dr. B R Ambedkar for the up-

liftment of the socially and economically deprived sections of the society.

3. To promote studies and research on Dr. Ambedkar.

COURSES OFFERED AT THE UNIVERSITY LEVEL:

1. P.G. Diploma in Ambedkar studies

2. Certificate course in Dalit movement

Activities at the college level:

1. Creation of separate reading section of Dr. Ambedkar’s literature.

2. Seminars and special lecture on Dr. Ambedkar life and thoughts.

3. Interclass and inter college quiz, essay, speech, debate competitions.

4. Movie screening.

5. Certificate course.

6. Any other activity in empowerment of socially and economically

backward sections of the society

ESTABLISHMENT OF READING ROOM IN THE COLLEGE

INTRODUCTION:

The college reading room is an additional facility created in the process of upgrading the college

knowledge infrastructure.yhe room has been kept open for students and staff on first –come –first –serve

basis. The concept has been successful in promoting group feeling and providing a homely atmosphere

for studies.

GOALS:

To provide a supportive and stimulating environment for students and staff.

To encourage all students to reach their full potential as independent learners.

To foster the enjoyment of reading as a recreational activity.

To support the curriculum of various courses by providing access to relevant

resource.

To develop an awareness in students of the importance of books and other

resources as a means of recording and sharing human achievements, failures and aspirations.

To contribute to the development of positive personal attributes within each

student.

FACILITIES PROVIDED

Separate reference section

Daily news papers in regional and English language

Magazines in general, subject, and competitive exam oriented.

Journals related to various subjects of BA and BCOM courses.

Inflibnet facility.

Internet facility.

READING ROOM CODE OF CONDUCT

1. The papers and periodicals attached to tables in the reading room shall not be

removed

2. Complete silence shall be observed in the reading room

3. Bags, umbrellas, books, personal belongings, etc, should be kept outside the

reading room.

4. Readers shall vacate the hall five minutes prior to the closing time.
