What do SMEs have to do?

• To create sustainable jobs, SMEs have to lift their activity levels (Sales) through investment in new business development;

• To achieve a sustainable growth rate of ≥10% pa, SMEs need to invest up to 10% of annual Sales in:• Identifying and validating additional business opportunities;• Making the best of these market-ready;

• And, they need to spend another 10% of annual sales on marketing and selling their existing and new offerings.

What sort of companies can do this?

Success requires companies which are:• Confidently managed;• Outward looking;• Addressing areas of real opportunity;• Are capable of making investments in the right areas

of business growth – and are willing to do so.

So, what can a Region do to accelerate the willingness and competence of growth SMEs to invest successfully in sustainable growth?
