The Puget Sound Area Safety Summit: Working Together to Save Lives Dear Colleague: Enjoy your Puget Sound Area Safety Summit directory. It provides you with a powerful tool to improve your company’s safety and health program – the means to access the combined energy and ideas of like-minded individuals such as yourself who strive for safety and health excellence. The Puget Sound Area Safety Summit is unique, in that the only requirement to belong is a willingness to share what you know about safety and health with other participants. It is also a wonderful example of what can be achieved when employers, labor, and government work cooperatively to attain a goal consistent with our mission at OSHA – the prevention of job-related injuries, illnesses, and deaths. The most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that the rate of non-fatal workplace injuries and illnesses among private sector employers declined from 3.6 cases per 100 full-time workers in 2009 to 3.5 in 2010. Although such a decline is a positive reflection of the joint efforts of business, labor, government and other organizations, the number of work-related injuries and illnesses is still too high. OSHA is, therefore, committed to continuing to work with groups such as the Puget Sound Area Safety Summit to reduce hazards and risks even further
