MARK MITCHELLPaintings & Drawings
Welcome to Mark Mitchell Paintings and Drawings
Established by John Mitchell in 1930, the art dealing business has been in the
Mitchell family for three generations, which leads to highly knowledgeable and
passionate business owners. Mark’s business is a trading division of his father’s
business Paul Mitchell Ltd. who specialise in Antique & Reproduction Picture
Frames and Conservation & Restoration of Paintings.
Mark is passionate about talented artists who are overshadowed by much more famous artists. He has built up a rich and varied collection of British and Continental oil paintings, watercolours and drawings, mainly from the 19th to 21st centuries. The Mark Mitchell Gallery is based in Mayfair, London and comprises artworks spanning the 17th to the 21st century.
19th Century paintings
Mark has a passion for promoting works by artists who were not as popular as fashionable artists of the time, but just as talented and highly trained. Some of the 19th century paintings are from recognised artists. The landscape artist Frederick R. Lee had works exhibited in the Royal Academy for 46 years and there are a few works by Albert Ludovici who served on the committee of the Society of British Artists.
20th Century PaintingsThe 20th
century collection is full of stunning images from more contemporary artists. They were all trained at classic institutions such as The Slade, the Royal Academy Schools and the Dublin School of Art. There are many works by George Weissbort, a talented still life painter. A couple of detailed pencil landscapes are by Bertram Nicholls whose work can be found in major institutions across the world.
21st Century PaintingsThe contemporary
collection are visibly more modern as some are oil on canvas which don’t require frames. Nevertheless they are as beautiful and impressive as the more traditional paintings.
A lot of the modern day paintings are by Stephen Rose. Trained at the Royal Academy of Art, Rose produces oil on canvas still life as well as landscapes and nudes. There are also some stunning marine paintings by Martin Swan.
