1.0 Before you begin

On a pc only the minimum spec for a pc will be displayedOn a mac only the minimum spec for a mac will be displayed

The minimum specs are as follows

Personal computer with Pentium-compatible processor - Win 2000: 133 MHz or higher / Win XP: 300 MHz or higher If wireless adapter not purchased: 2.4 GHz wireless adapter or Ethernet adapter / If wireless adapter purchased: USB port Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later 100 MB hard drive space OS: Win 2000, Win XP RAM - Win 2000: 64 MB / Win XP: 128 MB

MacOn roll over the following information appears:

I have received a letter with my estimated activation date for my Sky broadbandNote: you can still setup your Sky Router even if you have not yet received this letter, and it will then be all ready to go as soon as your Sky Broadband is live

Disable any anti-virus/firewall software already running

Close any open applications

4.0.1 Connect microfilters

On roll over the following information appears: Broadband signals degrade phone sound quality. Microfilters block such problems and are required for each phone, fax, or Sky Set Top Box

Connect microfilters

Plug a microfilter into every telephone socket that has a device connected, and is using the same number as your Sky Broadband.Insert the filter into the phone outlet and connect the phone to the phone connector.Your Sky Router includes three Microfilters. Plug one end of the grey phone cord into the ADSL socket on the back of the Sky Router, and the other end into the DSL port on the microfilter.

5.0 Check lights

Check lights

The power light is lit and solid green after applying power to the router.The Internet link light blinks amber, and then turns solid green (can take several minutes), indicating a link has been established to your Sky Broadband. The local lights (1 to 4) are lit for any computers connected to the Sky Router with Ethernet cable

5.1 Lights help

Check you have received an estimated activation date for your Sky BroadbandYou will receive a letter from us with your estimated activation date – if you have not yet received this letter, then don’t worry, you are all set up and ready to use your Sky Broadband as soon as it is activated.If you leave the Sky Router plugged in, the Internet light will go solid green when your Sky Broadband is activated, and you should be able to go straight online, as you are all ready to go.If you are switching to Sky Broadband from another Broadband providerIf you are switching to Sky Broadband from another Broadband provider, the Internet light will already be solid green, indicating that there is Broadband on your phone line. We advise that you not install the Sky Router before your service has been migrated to Sky – this is usually indicated by a drop in connection of between 10 minutes and two hours. When you are no longer able to access your existing Broadband service, this usually means you have been migrated to Sky Broadband, and it is time to install the Sky Router.Check power light is solid greenIf power light is not solid green, make sure the router is plugged in, and you are using the power cord supplied with.Check Internet light is solid green

o If it is not solid green, make sure this is on or past your estimated Sky Broadband activation dateo Disconnect all telephones connected (at any socket) to the phone number that your Sky Broadband is on.o If disconnecting all telephones worked, reconnect the telephones one at a time, being careful to use a microfilter on each

telephone. If the microfilters are connected correctly, you should be able to connect all your telephones and still have a solid green Internet light.Internet light is blinking amberYour Sky Router is checking for a broadband connection. This can take several minutes, please be patient.Check LAN light (Numbers 1 to 4) is litMake sure the Ethernet cable connections are secure at the router and at your computer. Be sure you are using the correct cable (yellow Ethernet cable).

If installing McAfee please ensure you uninstall your existing security software. Having 2 security applications running simultaneously will seriously effect the performance of your internet connection.

Please refer to the user manual which accompanies your security software for more information on how to do this

Make sure you launch the Sky Security Centre to activate your Parental control and Privacy settings, they are not active until you have configured them

7.0 Install files

A Sky branded IE6 shortcut will be dropped onto the desktop and a ‘Sky Broadband’ folder will be added to the start bar. The folder will contain shortcuts to IE6 and the help files stored locally on the computer

The updated IE6 will keep all the favourites and add sky favourites TBC

‘Continue’ remains disabled until the software installation is complete

Once all the files have been installed the link becomes enabled and links to 7.1 Restart if Installed IE6 or upgraded to IE6

8.0.1 Wireless info

Wireless info

Your wireless home network uses the latest type of secure encryption technology available (WPA-PSK), making it very difficult for anyone to access your network, unless they have access to your Wireless Settings.

The wireless settings you need in order to access Sky Broadband wirelessly through your Sky Router are located on the bottom of your Sky Router, and also on a handy Wireless Network Settings card that was included in the box with your router.

You will need these settings, no matter which type of wireless adapter you haveThe settings are:SSID – the name of your Wireless Network. Wireless Network Key – also called ‘Passphrase’ or ‘WEP Key’, this is your password

The exact setup procedure varies depending on the wireless adapter device you are using. In all cases, you will need to ensure the wireless adapter software has been installed on the computer you wish to connect

Before calling technical support please check you have received a letter from us with your estimated activation date and your sky broadband account is activeIf you have not yet received this letter, then don’t worry, you will receive it soon. Your computer is all set up and ready to use Sky Broadband as soon as it is activated. Leave the Sky Router plugged in and the Internet light will go solid green when your Sky Broadband is activated, you should be able to go online straight away
