CIMI stands for « Centre International de Mathématiques et Informatique de Toulouse ». It is one of the Excellence Laboratory chosen by the ANR for the period 2012-2020 as part of the national programme of « Investments for the Future ».
CIMI brings together the teams of the Institut de Mathématiques de Toulouse (IMT) as well as the teams of the Institut de Recherche en Informatique de Toulouse (IRIT). CIMI gathers more than 450 researchers, involves world renowned research teams, and offers a dynamic scientific environment and attractive educational programme.
CIMI is establishing itself as a leading international center in mathematics, computer science, and their interactions. This original combination within a single structure goes beyond the current conventional collaborations and creates a real synergy suitable for achieving global excellence in research and in exploring innovative research areas, and has already led to the creation of common research project teams between the two institutes.
The means provided by the LabEx program allow CIMI to be an international reference center, attracting high-level scientists, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral students. CIMI also coordinates important educational projects to attract the very best students at the Master level. Last but not least, an important CIMI goal is to enhance further the relationships between the mathematics and computer science community with the social, economic and industrial world, through its collaboration with Toulouse Tech Transfer. A cooperation agreement has already been signed with the Institut de Recherche Technologique Saint Exupéry to develop further cooperation with the aeronautical community in different areas such as machine learning or optimization.
CIMI is a unique place for research in mathematics and computer science attracting high-level scientists and students. The program includes actions towards attractiveness, enabling a proactive strategy of high-level recruitments of confirmed and junior scientists and of outstanding students (French and foreigners). These include excellence chairs for long-term visitors and visiting chairs supported by partners from the industry on specific projects. Grants for Doctoral and Post-Doctoral students, as well as supports for Master students, are features of the educational program. Attractiveness is further enhanced with thematic trimesters organized within CIMI on specific topics including courses, seminars and workshops.
Subjects already addressed include Signal Processing, High Performance Computing, Machine Learning, and many others. Last but not least, CIMI funds a selection of research projects.
This document intends to highlight the skills, expertise, and know-how of the two institutes IMT and IRIT. It is designed to be a tool to present to industrial partners the fields of interest and specific competences of CIMI researchers and teams. It should allow for industrial companies to identify specific scientific domains delivered by CIMI teams. The current document presents an overview of the scientific teams involved in the LabEx, their scientific achievements and their possible applications. Whether you are familiar with scientific terminology or not, you will find an easy access to the information that you are seeking thanks to the classifications we have proposed that allow the document to be browsed by scientific domains or industrial domains.
Once you have identified the expert(s) with whom you wish to discuss your industrial needs or merely ask further information about specific topics, feel free to reach them through the contact details provided at the bottom of each page.

HOW TO ACCESS INFORMATION
This document aggregates descriptions of the scientific teams involved in the LABEX CIMI. Three different classifications allow you to find the ones working in your field of interest.
BROWSE BY SCIENTIFIC FIELDS Each team can be associated to major scientific fields within the scope of the LABEX CIMI. Go to the classification by scientific fields to find a summary of these scientific areas and to be redirected to the corresponding teams. Classification by scientific field 7
BROWSE BY INDUSTRIAL DOMAINS Researchers are currently working at tackling industrial application limitations and preparing for next generations of software, devices and systems. Go to the classification by application to find a list of application gathered under industrial domains as transport, energy, health-biotech, telecom… Classification by industrial domains 21

We aim at designing complex dynamic systems and self-adaptive systems with emerging functionalities. Our approach is based on self-organising multi-agent systems which prove very effective when considering heterogeneous and large-scale distributed systems in which non-linearities and changes are due to inner and outer dynamics.
Our know-how finds application in AI, robotics, distributed systems, social simulations, local search optimization, user profiling, prediction tools, control of complex systems, decision support, just to name a few.
• Key technical research skills and formal developments
- Synthesis of agent systems: for problem solving and spatial optimization tasks in various domains
- Self-modelling of real-world phenomena: for hypothesis testing or verification to assist decision making or business intelligence
- Data analysis: agents bring self-organization for discovering correlations in huge amount of data and bringing new points of view
- Methods for extracting and learning behaviors, hidden within heterogeneous data, without any predefined goals to achieve (non-finality)
• Specific equipment and computational aspects
- neOCampus: Living lab in a University Campus

Safety critical real-time systems are implemented as sets of tasks that must meet deadlines. Real-time task scheduling strategies rely on the knowledge of the worst-case execution time (WCET) of each task. The research activities of the TRACES group aim to design new techniques with which to determine such WCETs and/or to facilitate their computation.
