I am still hoping for a group to the August 8 Giants game. Mike Nickey's jokes were great, as usual. Thanks , Mike. Our guest speaker, Sharron Spotts, presented information on what she called "The Senior Care Journey". The guest speaker on March 7 will be Jack Sanchez, founder and president of Save Auburn Ravine Salmon and Steelhead (SARSAS). He will be assisted by Steve Hubbard of Netstream Communications. If you have any interest in fishing, nature, conservation, or the environment, I guarantee you will enjoy this event. Don't miss this one, and bring a friend. I would like to thank the 29 Sirs who were absent on February 7 and took the trouble to call Arlan as requested. It helps. I look forward to seeing everyone on March 7. Please attend if you can. Don't miss the corned beef and cabbage. Yum! Your Big Sir, Roland Gaubert

SIR OF THE MONTH

Our Sir of the Month for February 2013 is Richard D. McClellan. Dick was born on 4 August 1932 in Long Beach California. He lived in various cities in California until the age of fourteen when his family settled in our wonderful city of Auburn. Here he attended and graduated from Placer High as a Placer Hillman in 1950. He attended the Placer Junior College and received an Associate of Arts degree in Business Management. He also worked for about a year driving a laundry truck in our city. In 1952 he married his high school sweetheart Marie. He and Marie recently celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary with a fourteen day cruise to the southern Caribbean. Congrats are certainly in order for this great couple. In 1953 he was drafted into the United States Army. He served two years and attended various training programs at Fort Ord California. He also spend a tour of duty in the Republic of South Korea where he was stationed along that nations northern border near the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). Dick reached the rank of sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1955. After the military he worked for a short period of time on the Placer County road department survey crew. In 1956 he went to work with PG&E doing survey work. Soon after he was elevated and worked in the areas of encroachment and easements. He remained with PG&E for thirty-six years and retired in 1992 as a Division Land Supervisor. He keeps close contact with those he worked with at PG&E as he is the secretary of that retired group. Dick and Marie enjoy traveling, especially within the U.S. They have made approximately seventy-five trips to many interesting parts of our nation. They belong to a travel group that conducts guided tours. Sounds great to me. He has been a member of SIRS # 37 since 1995 and has served the unit as our secretary for the past five years. He and Marie have one son who is a computer systems manager with Biotech Corp. He resides in Tucson, Arizona and works out of the Bay area. Dick’s philosophy for a good life is “ Try to always do your best and enjoy life”. That to me is a great recipe for everyone to live by. It was a pleasure and an honor profiling Dick. Thanx Dick Paul McDaniel, Profiler
