Sioux Falls Morning Optimist News Volume 2, Issue 12 September 2016 Presidents Corner with Sean Ervin This marks my last newsletter for our club. We have had a great year thanks to our great club and each and every one of you. I cannot thank each of you enough for all you do on behalf of our club, from donations of money, time, and your enthusiasm. It is all greatly appreciated by me, and the rest of the Club. I think this highlights perhaps the most personally important piece of the Optimist Creed for each of us. That portion is the exhortation “Promise Yourself”. Each and every element of the Creed is a promise to ourselves. We all know that an optimistic attitude always starts from within us. We bring that attitude with us to each event and action we participate in, whether it is club- related or in our daily lives. We are all part of a team that can do anything we set our mind to. Please promise yourself to take on something new this year and advance yourself and this great club at the same time. Whatever you do in the coming year, make sure to Promise Yourself to be the Optimistic example for others you know and interact with. Above all, THANKS!!! Club Member Highlight This month’s Club Member Highlight reprises our incoming President’s history: Ken Munch is our incoming President as of October 1. He has been a member since 2007 when he was sponsored by Eric Olson. Ken loves Golf. It is no surprise then that his favorite event is our Spring Golf Tournament. He also is inspired by the Creed, where his favorite portions are “To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others” and “To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.” Ken has been married to fellow member Star for over 50 years. They have a grown son Eric and a grown daughter Tracy, and 4 brilliant grandchildren. He is a retired pharmacist. He loves to sing in the Sioux Empirians, among other things. He has a couple of classic cars that he enjoys as well. Ken’s favorite quote is from Albert Einstein: “a pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity; an Optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

Presidents Corner with Sean Ervin

This marks my last newsletter for our

club. We have had a great year thanks to

our great club and each and every one of

you. I cannot thank each of you enough

for all you do on behalf of our club, from

donations of money, time, and your

enthusiasm. It is all greatly appreciated by

me, and the rest of the Club.

I think this highlights perhaps the most

personally important piece of the

Optimist Creed for each of us. That

portion is the exhortation “Promise

Yourself”. Each and every element of the

Creed is a promise to ourselves. We all

know that an optimistic attitude always

starts from within us. We bring that

attitude with us to each event and action

we participate in, whether it is club-

related or in our daily lives.

We are all part of a team that can do

anything we set our mind to. Please

promise yourself to take on something

new this year and advance yourself and

this great club at the same time.

Whatever you do in the coming year,

make sure to Promise Yourself to be the

Optimistic example for others you know

and interact with. Above all, THANKS!!!

Guests Needed! We are still down a total of 16 members this year. There is an event in conjunction with the Young Professionals Network (YPN) where we hope to gain some new members, but we need help from our members to find candidates that could become members or Friends. If you know of anyone, please reach out to Ken Munch (351-9062) or Jack Dyvig and they can help you with whatever you need to get them signed up. Often the first step is to invite them to a meeting… so go for it!

MO’s Courageous Kids Carnival was a success! - Camp

Bring It On benefits

We had lots of good promotion thanks to Amy Hendrix and Ken Munch on the radio.

They sounded great! This was the 11th Annual MO’s Courageous Kid’s Carnival and was on Saturday, August

27th at Sherman Park. It was a great “hands on” opportunity for club members to interact with kids, including some of the kids that have and will benefit from the funds. We served 374 kids that day, and they all had a great time! This continues to be one our premier events that not only serves children in the community but also raises funds for Camp Bring It On. Thanks to everyone who helped!

Congratulations to all of the winners

We will have a program recalling the past year and looking forward to next year. Social Hour is from 5:30 – 6:30 with dinner at 6:30 and the program about 7:15. This all happens at Cherry Creek Grille on E 26th Street.
