Sime Darby Motors’ first assembly plant was the Associated Motors Industries (AMI) plant in Selangor, Malaysia in 1982, assembling BMW and Land Rover vehicles. In 2004, Sime Darby Motors acquired the Inokom assembly plant in Kedah, Malaysia, assembling various Hyundai passenger and commercial vehicles. In 2008, assembly operations for BMW and Land Rover were relocated to Inokom. The MINI and Mazda brands were added in 2011. In 2018, Sime Darby Motors launched the Sime Darby Auto Engineering (SDAE) Engine Assembly facility. The engine assembly facility supports BMW Group Malaysia’s growing demand for locally assembled vehicles with the newest capabilities in engine assembly technology. Assembly materials are sourced from respective principals overseas as well as locally, catering for both the domestic and export markets. Inokom’s current capacity is 38,000 vehicles while SDAE’s current capacity is 10,000 engines per annum. Utilising 51% of a 200-acre site, the two plants has the potential to expand its production facility and is poised to meet increasing demand from the Asia Pacific region.

Sime Darby Motors serves as a bridge between its principals and customers through its extensive networks in the markets it operates in.

Its first distribution business began more than 30 years ago through the distribution of Ford vehicles. It now imports and distributes, among others, BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce, Ford, Land Rover, Hyundai, Porsche, Suzuki and Mitsubishi passenger vehicles in the Asia Pacific region.

Sime Darby Motors’ retail operations offer a wide range of vehicles from broad appeal market brands to luxury cars, as well as commercial vehicles. Some of the brands represented by Sime Darby Motors include BMW, MINI, Roll-Royce, Porsche, Hyundai, Ford and Land Rover.

Sime Darby Motors is focused on selling quality products supported by excellent after sales services.

Its retail operations feature some of the best and latest state of the art facilities in the region. Showrooms and service centres throughout the 10 countries are designed to offer customers comfort and experience second to none.

Sime Darby Motors’ foray into the Australasia market began in 1998 with the acquisition of Continental Car Services Ltd, a multi-franchise dealership based in Auckland, New Zealand.

Recent collaborations were formed with Kia in Taiwan, Jaguar in Malaysia and Porsche, BMW, Mini, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Fiat and most recently, Volvo in Australia.

In the commercial vehicle sector, Sime Darby Motors imports and distributes the Hino, UD Trucks, Mitsubishi Fuso and Mack brands, among others.
