Hello!

Welcome to Silivri Fatih Koleji, Istanbul!

My name is Hamza, I’m 12 years old and I’m in the 6th grade.

Let me introduce you to our school.

Page 3: Silivri Fatih Koleji ISTANBUL

Here is my classroom. There are twenty-two students in my class. We have lessons from Monday to Friday. There are eight lessons everyday,

but on Friday we have seven lessons and go home early

Page 4: Silivri Fatih Koleji ISTANBUL

Here is the library. We have books in Turkish, English and Arabic. And here is the music room. Put your fingers in your ears!

We love computer games! But in the computer room we have to study or the teacher will be angry! Don’t worry, we can play outside at break

time. I can play football, basketball and volleyball with my friends. What sports do you like to play?

Page 6: Silivri Fatih Koleji ISTANBUL

My favourite place is the canteen. We eat at one o’clock. The food is delicious!

This is my classmate, Beyzanur. She’s going to tell you a bit about Turkey and Silivri. See you later!

Hi, nice to meet you! Turkey is a wonderful country and we look forward to your visit. I will tell you something about Turkey and Silivri.

Page 9: Silivri Fatih Koleji ISTANBUL

70 million people live in Turkey. Istanbul is the biggest city, but Ankara is the capital. Here you can see The Blue Mosque in Istanbul.

If you go to Cappadocia in Central Turkey you can fly in a hot air balloon over strange-shaped rocks. Or why not take a holiday by the

sea in Antalya? Last year I went here in my summer break. My brother and I played on the beach and made sand castles. It was fun!

Sumele Monastery, near Trabzon, on the Black Sea, clings on to the side of a cliff like magic! In Mount Nemrut strange stone

faces stare back at you from the mountainside.

We have some famous animals in Turkey. On the left is the wooden horse of Troy. On the right is a cat from a city called Van in Eastern

Turkey. Can you see it has different coloured eyes?

Silivri is in north-west Turkey on the Sea of Marmara. It has a population of about 200,000. The old town and the harbour are very

pretty. It takes about an hour to travel to central Istanbul.

Here are some famous places in Silivri.

The harbour, with many seafood restaurants. We can stroll along the promenade on a Sunday afternoon.

…and Mimar Sinan Bridge, built in 1566. It has thirty-two arches. It was

restored in the 1980s.

Turkish people love shopping! Our biggest shopping centres are Kipa and Maxi. At Kipa Centre there are shops, restaurants, a cinema, and a children’s park with a ferris wheel. Maxi Centre is similar, but also has

go-carting. I’m waiting for you to join us

Thanks Beyzanur, that was very interesting. Now I’ll tell you about the English courses we study here at Fatih Koleji.

Page 17: Silivri Fatih Koleji ISTANBUL

Two of the books we use are ‘Speak Now’ and ‘English Plus’. They are fun, but our teacher gives us too much homework.

What study books do you use?

Page 18: Silivri Fatih Koleji ISTANBUL

In our lessons we work altogether, in pairs, in groups, or on our own. We sometimes have project work. Our lessons are student-centred and our teacher wants us to speak in English as often as possible.

Page 19: Silivri Fatih Koleji ISTANBUL

We make presentations of our work for the ‘English Corner’. For example we studied ‘The Green Angels’ and then wrote our own comic

strips. We love to write and draw, and use drama to act our stories.

Page 20: Silivri Fatih Koleji ISTANBUL

Together we have many partners in the COMENIUS School Partnership including Spain, Germany, Romania and Poland. We made these

posters about it. Well, that’s enough from me. Here’s Beyzanur again.

Thanks, Hamza.

There are a lot of special events at our school. They give us the chance to learn outside the classroom and join the local community.

Three examples are Pet Day, Ataturk Day, and class day trips…

Page 22: Silivri Fatih Koleji ISTANBUL

Pet Day is one of our favourite events. We bring our pets to school, including dogs, cats, fish, turtles, parrots and ducks!

What’s your favourite animal?

Page 23: Silivri Fatih Koleji ISTANBUL

Every year we celebrate Ataturk Day. Kemal Ataturk founded modern Turkey in 1923 and we respect him a lot. There are ceremonies,

presentations, and traditional music is played.

Page 24: Silivri Fatih Koleji ISTANBUL

The students at Fatih Koleji also help out in the community. This visit was to the animal rehabilitation centre. We love animals!

Page 25: Silivri Fatih Koleji ISTANBUL

Our names are Hamza and Beyzanur from Silivri Fatih Koleji. That’s the end of our presentation. We hope you enjoyed it.

See you soon!

Good Bye! Bye!
